My friend just recently bought a cold air intake from focus central and when he got it, it didnt have any carb stickers or any thing that said it was street legal. He lives in california and he wants to know if any of you guys have bought the intake from them and had the same problem.

If there's no sticker, then the odds are probably against it being CARB legal, as that can be a pretty good selling point, and most manufacturers are eager to take advantage of it. Email them to see if it is, but I would also ask about their return policy as chances are it isn't legal.

i dont see why a focus central intake wouldnt be legal maybe they just forgot to put the sticker on it?

That could be the case. Why not just get an AEM ram air intake, they're smog legal.

I agree with focusfreak. I've got an AEM short ram on my car, and it's great. Definately a pretty good gain for the money...not only that, but the car is loud enough with only the intake for people to look when I get to about 4k rpms...hehe

I think I might be going for a AEM intake as well since I am from california as well. So what do you guys recommend, short ram or cold air? I am undecided at the moment.

I've never driven a Focus with a CAI, but if I had the decision, and lived where you did, I would get the CAI, if only for a slight bump in hp. The only reason I went for the ram air is because living in Buffalo NY, I was afraid of coming out one day and finding snow all around my car, blocking the air filter, or just afraid of getting some snow in it...you can solve this with a bypass valve, but that's more then I wanted to spend. We put an AEM CAI in my friend's Accord, but he doesn't have to worry as much since the filter is essentially enclosed with splashguards; all the same, he's still very careful going through deep puddles, and in snow. I agree, the ram air is better for puddle ridden and snowy areas. The CAI is great too.

i would go with the short ram b/c not only does it have a bigger inlet if you rev it just a little bit you can here it sucking in air like crazy...i love it its music to my ears...and like they said if you plan on driving in the winter and through water i would get the short ram too

Dont listen to any of them about Short Ram Intakes, they suck. why get a Short ram? Your sucking in hot engine heat! With a short ram you gain about 2-5 hp, with a real cold air you gain anywhere from 8-15 hp! All intakes are smog legal, cali and ny. if u were to go with an intake i suggest an AEM cold air, best hp rating ive seen.

ohh and one more thing, dont worry about what they say about gettin water into intake, just buy a bypass valve for 30-40 bucks, or like i did i made my own air box that surrounds my aftermarket filter, CAI sit up near your inner wheel so if you got your splash guard you should have no problem, trust me, i live in NY(Ton of Snow) and plenty of puddles!
