i have a 85 crx si and i need a new clutch but i dont know what to get. i was thinking about an exedy clutch but i dont know much about it. i also want maximum gripping power. what is the best way to go?





this is the clutch that i was looking at.

Is your engine stock, then yea I would go for it, its made from organics, if u start getting into really high hp u may want to look at kevlar, but other than that it looks fine.

like that other guy said you should go with that clutch but yoru catback and intake want do any differnce with that clutch but if you start to build the motor and the bottom end then you might want to get a better one.

I really don't think it would because the 88 CRX is a B class engine while the earlier are D class. Thats my guess. I could be wrong but I think I'm right.

Actually... The 88 has a D-series engine... But I believe the imput shafts are different, as well as the pressure plate and flywheel. I have not personally tried swapping the two... So I don't know... Lxndr might be your best source on that info.

i really need to know cause i bought an exccedy(dont know if i spelled it correctly..) clutch kit for 125 $.....new not used.....and the book had the same number code....but i have to be sure...im going to start to dismount the trans this week but just to evade the extra time on the rode to change it.....you guys should know....when you buy something for your car and it doesint fit cause some dumb ass in the store gave you the wrong piece.......thats so frustrating....:mad:

Maybe lxndr will come to the rescue. Because the d15 block might possibly be the same for both years (87, 88) so it may just possibly work. Again, I don't have alot of expertise in this area... Oh for a Mod to help out.

I haven't done much research on the topic of swapping in an '88-'91 clutch. I've read that the flywheel from an '88-'91 won't work without some machining around the input shaft, but I'm not sure about the spline count or diameter of an '88-'91 clutch, or of it's compatability with the '84-'87 shaft and flywheel.

From what I've discovered, the stock CRX clutch and pressure plate can handle up to 200hp without slipping. So for those of you out there that want a race clutch for their car, keep in mind that a clutch doesn't make your car faster, it is simply a friction disk that keeps your trans engaged with your engine. There are different designs and composite materials used in race clutches in order to prevent slippage under high HP, but a mostly stock, daily driven car doesn't need one. The pressure plate however, applies pressure to the clutch, which means a weak pressure plate could cause the clutch to slip under heavy load or high HP (a worn clutch will do the same). But a firm pressure plate will make it feel like you're shifting a Mack truck, I know this because I installed one of these in a '71 VW squareback that I once had. This VW was a quick car but it was uncomfortable to drive on a daily basis, the clutch pedal was extremely firm and engaged with a "JOLT".

If your car is not a full race car, the stock clutch will work fine. Like I mentioned, it can handle up to 200HP without slipping and most EW/D15's won't ever see that much HP. However if power is what you're after, then an engine swap is in order, and along with an engine swap comes a better selection of clutches.

It's entirely possible that I'm completely wrong, like I said this isn't a topic that I've done a great deal of research on. Please keep us informed!

another question...would a 86-89 integra clutch work? knowing that they basicly share the same everything so,i asume that they should...yes....no.....i really dont know...:(

DAMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....it doesnt work! the pressure plate is the same but the disk and throw out bearing are not the same....i manneged to get the T.O. bearing but they didnt have the disk................they didnt want to give back my cash so i took from the store an ACT unsprung bronze racing disk....I know! I know! its gona F-up the fly wheel and what not...but if you saw how the clutch (old one) looked like you would get one two... When i got them in my hands all the springs fell off ! but still....lets see what happens when i install the bronzed one.....

Which one didn't fit? Was it the clutch for an '88-'91 Civic, or for an '86-'89 Integra?

well i used the 88-91 civic disk and it didnt work but,the pressure plate of the 88-91 works fine...the splines from the 88 disk change..i changed the act bronze disk for a bronze particle disk....i really dont feel like buying another trans due to my lack of ''responsable''and "sane" street driving... oh well... lets see what happens...:)
