Auto to manual tranny swap

Hello, this is my first post on this forum......I own a 88 HB with an automatic. I'm really tired the automatic trans in my civic and would like to get a standard to make it more fun to drive. Are there any how-to's on the net on how to make this swap? Better yet, how much would a shop charge me to do this? I live in central Florida so if anyone knows of some shops in the area that could handle this it would be great.

To bad you're not closer my way, I'd just trade ya. I'm getting tired of my manual tranny, it's getting to be to much for my morning commute.

yea i'm really glad mine is an automatic. I could learn how to drive a manual, but after a while it's like, eh why dont i jus press the pedal down it's so much easier :P

sure it's slow, but it's comfy :)

Doesn't somebody make an auto tranny for our cars that works well with high-horsepower engines? I wouldn't mind having a turbo B18 and an auto :P

Oh and back to the origional point, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an 88 DX with a manual already in it?

Probably a lot cheaper and less work to get another car. You can get a good manual 4th gen for 800 or so. So you can buy a civic with a manual and then sell your automatic.

And they have stronger auto transmissions, like the ones the new acuras have, and the newer accords etc, but not sure if they make one for our cars. Most people have the manual transmission anyway, so there's not much of a market for a nice strong auto, unless it's compatible with other civic generations.

Wouldn't any standard B series auto work in our cars though? With the right ECU and wiring and such?

Well, my civic has only 55,000 miles on it so I really don't want to sell it. I'm sure there would be a line to buy my auto trans with the low milage. The auto can be nice at times, but in a small car like the civic you need a manual to get the most out of it, and the autos in the civics are REALLY weak. I don't like the way it shifts at all. Automatics are for cars like my wife's '97 Crown Vic.

To answer the first question, I live in St.Petersburg....I'm looking for some shops that are Honda experienced in the area. A tuner or a race car shop would probably be able to handle it....Of course this all depends on the price, if it's too much I'll just stick with the auto and start saving for a Mustang GT!

For the price of the GT you could have an S2000 ;P
