Hello! I have a 93 J30 with 140000 KM on it. It is a V6, automatic tranny. Car's been great till two days ago. All of a sudden, after driving the car for 5 mins, it shifts into neutral. Then if you turn the engine off and let it sit for a while, it comes back to normal for another 5 and then same thing.
I am guessing its a shifter position switch / TCM problem...? Anyone else have this experience before ? If so, what could it be!?
Thanks :)

might possibly be an accumulator in the tranny or ont of the springs, if it is the tranny than unless you know a wholel ot about them i really wouldnt tear into it on your own, odds are it will never work again. i would take it somewhere and have it looked at, the only thing i can think of though is in the tranny.

- Up to this point, my experience also: 129.000km...
In the Next forum, the "Cefiro/Maxima/I30/I35" some talk of similar problems, say that the shifter adjustment or its selectorwire is bad. Symptom: D does not go on or drops off.
Once I had accidentally D drop off. ECU went to safe mode. In safe mode revs do not exceed 2500rpm and the car is 'about dead'.
- how about second gear? does it [or 1 or R] work or is the tranny totally dead?
- If the defining reason is 5mins, then it is heat related. Is Oil recommended, new, filter changed?
- ECU controls the gearbox also: check all ctrl wirings [typically intermittent, but not! 5min. -related problems]

Thanks for the tips guys...just came back from a trip and ready to work on the car again! Anyone here know how to test the rotation sensor without special dealer tools?
thanks!
thanks!

rotation sensor: What for? Never heard u can break it. Typically problems are MAF, ECU, O2sensor, ign: plugs, wires cap rotor, injection ...areas.
U need a scope: I have taken oscilloscope pics of that sensor output.
Btw. Did you know that a few inputs (MAF, tranny etc) trig ECU to safe mode (=2200rm limit) nad this mode is cleared when u shut down the engine.
thanks!

You need to have this vehicle scanned for data.Or get out the wiring diagram and ohm meter. You need to check your line pressure solenoid at time of failure. It's done easily with a scanner {monitor line pressure duty cycle}.Or ohm it out {2.5 - 5 ohms}.If all checks ok , it is most probably a control valve assembly issue. You don't want to tackle that yourself.

BTW The turbine revolution sensor will not cause this type of failure.
