spark plug removal

I know this subject has been talked about in the past. I can't seem to find any info on it. Can someone please tell me what that silver metal bar across the top of the spark plugs (2.4L Taco automatic) is? Do I need to remove it to change the plugs? If so, how do I remove it? What is it's purpose? Thanks

i looked through the parts list for the 95-00 models and didnt find anything even referring to the spark plugs. but anyway, i know what youre talking about. I think it's only purpose is to keep them aligned. Again, I THINK that's what it's for. Like a guard type deal.

Can someone please give me more info on this? I would appreciate it!
