97 Silverado 5.0 engine shuts off

97 Silverado 5.0 engine shuts off just after it is running
also sometimes is hard to start
doesn't happen all the time
Any idea what to check !
Wires and plugs are in good shape
Seems to happen when fuel guage is between quarter and empty

Do you hear the fuel pump prime every time when you turn the key to "on"?
