Explorer noob

just bought a 91'(i think its a 91') explorer eddie bauer edition.

first thing i noticed was that the little light under the cluster("4x4") and the little light beside the 4x4 on/off button, both always stay on wether 4x4 is on or not

is that right or is there something wrong...the only way i have to tell if 4x4 is on is to listen for the relay clicking or....try it out.

(of course ive tried pressing the button)
