When I start the truck in the morning it pumps out white smoke and if I accelerate the truck dogs down and puts out more smoke. Once I get over about 40mph the truck runs great. Even after it warm up I still get some smoke and loss of power when accelerating but not as bad as the first start up in the morning.

Are you in the north region of the US or Canada? If so it's partly due to the cold weather. Another reason why the extra smoke may be due to the number 1 winter fuel.

My two diesels always start harder in the winter and bog way down for the first few minutes after start up. It's best I've learned to let them idle for a few minutes prior to taking off.

Things that can go wrong with the starting system are glow plugs and the glow plug relay, none of which would make the truck smoke if out however.

Pretty soon here the original batteries will have to be replaced on the 99. Twice it hasn't started for me during the past three winters. Once it was -30 out on the ice and another time it was -25 on the shore.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Texas and it never gets colder tham 30 in winter. The truck does this even when it's 100 out side in the summer

The best site on the planet for Ford diesel info. I've learned a ton there and have saved hundred by what I've learned.
