Should I go back to Prelude??

Hi people! Right now I own a 94 3000GT SL and insurance is pretty high. Quite frankly i'm getting sick of paying half a mortgage every month for my car. My car before this was a 92 Prelude (SOHC). I liked the looks of the car a lot, but it was so slow I couldn't deal with it, and sold it within two months of buying it. What i'm wondering is are any of the Preludes fast? By fast I mean in the 14 second 1/4 mile range when stock. I know insurance is much much lower on a Prelude than what i'm paying now, and it would be a big stress relief. And if any of them aren't in that "fast" range, which one would be easiest to modify into that range. Thanks for any input. :)

97-01 prelude last body style, 200 horse power/160tq stock, and if your lucky enough to find a sh model it has a crazy suspension.

the 4th gen 1992-1996 preludes are actually lighter and thus a little quicker. And yes, a vtec prelude will hit high 14's stock.

Any 5th gen Prelude, and any 4th gen VTEC Prelude will beat a stock 3000GT SL, unless your talking about a VR4. I might be wrong, but I don't think Honda made any SOHC Preludes in 92, only H23's and H22's, which are DOHC (non-vtec). I might be wrong again but I think Technical Automan is a bullshitter - read this thread...he doesn't know what he's talking about. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=324129.
I guess that's why he got banned.

Close. You just had it flipped around kinda. In 92 they had S and Si. The VTEC trim didn't come around until 93.

The '92 Prelude did come with a SOHC engine - the F22. I have one, but not for long, going VTEC very soon.

definitly go with the 97+ prelude. It is at least as fast as your GT, its not the twin turbo right? And the insurance on preludes are not high at all. Luckily, my dad pays my insurance, but he told me the difference between my old accord and my new prelude was insignificant, and the collision is only $50 / month. Very fun and reliable car.

Actually the quickest were the 93 and 94, they're slighty lighter then the 95 and 96.

I know that I just figured he would want something newer. And driver matters alot more than a little weight. I got a 92 lude si with and h22a swap its sweet!
