Hey i got a 98' sunfire, and i wanna drop a supercharged engine in it! I want it to go extremely fast, but still be street legal! What would be good? :)

ummm the 3.8L (i may be wrong) has been swapped into the J-body cars a few times. IMO you are better off with a Quad though. same power if built right, can be turbocharged easily, and can make more power than the car can handle safely in some cases.

Unless you got a BIG piggy bank your not going to be safe in the car and here's why... the thing with making a car with a big motor that goes fast is, you gotta stop. the brakes on our cars are not going to stop you at extremely high speeds, hence you need a big brake conversion, and at least a 16" rim. Another problem is that at these high speeds you may travel, if it is on a public road (bad idea anyway) and you hit a bump, the suspension is not made to handle such a sudden shift at those speeds. now you need a suspension upgrade, not just for the bumps, but for the immense amount of power you are putting to the wheels. Speaking of which, you will need to upgrade the drive alxes and transmission after so many ponies or you will be forced to at a bad time. now you have more into the safety of the car than you will ever get out of it, so now I'm going to ask you a big question.

Do you plan on keeping the car for a real long time?

You need a monster piggy bank.
There is a guy on J Body.org that did that.
I priced it out in Alberta, Canada.
2100 for the engine and 1800 for a newer tranny.
if you decide to go that way good luck and hope you win the lottery.

IPP do a roots style supercharger kit for a 00-02 cav/sunfire 2.4 (if you're willing to do an engine swap) it's $3200 this includes eveything you need from mounting brackets to uprated spark plugs, to gen II map sensor and recalibration of the VCM. Only for manual transmission but seing as you want to go 'as fast as possible' you want be wanting an Auto. Sorry they do make it for autos but what's the point. You can install it all yourself with limited knowledge but thew recal of the VCM has to left to the pro's. Can make up to 10 psi of boost.

Or check with GM performance who will be selling a superchager kit for 2.2 ecotech based around an Eaton M-62 blower (roots/helical-screw type) that is capable of 11 psi boost which should see you to about 190-200hp

Or the best bet. 2.0 litre Ecotech Supercharged crate engine from GM. This will churn out 205 hp at 12 psi boost. And should be covered by a warranty and is available with air-water intercooler (chargecooler if you like) crate engine part number: 12499466. If you walk into any GM dealer's parts dept and ask for this part number they will sell you this crate motor.

12499466 Ecotec 2.0L Supercharged Production Engine
This supercharged 4 cylinder Crate Engine (RPO LSJ) features the following:
DOHC with Sequential Fuel Injection
Bore is 86.00 mm and Stroke 86.00 mm with 9.5:1 compression ratio
205 Horsepower @ 5600 RPM and 200 lb-ft @ 4000 RPM torque
This engine powers the Saturn ION Redline
This production engine includes: exhaust manifold, intake manifold, injectors, fuel rail, balancer, water pump and flywheel

Technical Notes: Pulley, belt, p/s pump, a/c pump, starter, alternator, and engine cover are not included with this engine

True the updated version aswell. Show shopping around helps

or you can get a 'Turbo Specialities' 'Extreme' Turbo kit that can give you up to 280 hp usind a garret T25 with up to 18 lbs boost (needs boost controller, circa $300-$350) for $2499 from http://www.importperformanceparts.net

contents: 1 Garrett Turbo w/Internal Wastegate
1 High Nickel Composite Cast Exhaust Manifold
1 Down Pipe
1 fuel Pressure Regulator
1 Map Unit (Black box)
1 Oil Return Line and Fitting
1 Air Filter w/Piping
1 Injection Control Unit w/Turbo Timer -
1 Injector Interface Block w/Injectors -
1 Blow Off Valve -
1 High Flow Intercooler w/mounting hardware, Pressure Tubes, Rubber Hose Connections and Clamps

This is extremely good value!!!

Also you can always lighten your car to make it 'as fast as possible' like losing you rear seat, headlining, door panels, stereo, heater, spare tire, carpets etc and invest in some carbon fiber panels. Hood fenders trunk lid etc.

You didn't say as fast as possible in which way, such as track, street, drag, top end.... etc...

Track i'd go n/a.
