4x4 Dash Switch

2000 Silverado 4x4 1500 LS, I am going to replace the 4x4 dash switch, If anybody knows of any tricks or just wants to help me through it I would appreciate the help.

Shouldn't be hard at all. Just remove the outer dash trim, and then you can access the switch. I haven't looked in awhile, so I can't remember if it just snaps in place, or if its held in by screws. Either way, should be a really simple replacement.

Hi all. My first post so forgive me if I screw it up! Couldn't let this one go, as I had teh same problem. Here is a quote from another member, describing the fix that he used, and it also wroked for me:
"There have been several having problems with the 4WD selector switch. They have cracked solder joints on the back of the connector pins. If you solder, this is an easy fix. Remove the dash trim, remove the switch, seperate the back housing from the switch and look very closely at the solder joints on the back of the 12 (I think) pins. There were hairline cracks on 6 of mine. I resoldered all pins and haven't had a problem since."
So, the dash trim will pull off with your hands, then remove the switch, and pull it apart, which seems to be the hardest part of the repair. You will see little rings around the solder on a few of the pins. Those are the cracks. You can re-solder those and be good to go. Of ocurse, you cold be having a different problem but its worth a look. If you don't feel comfartable doing it, find a buddy who will! It's basically a free repair.

Easy stuff. It won't break. Just pull from the edges, where the dash is thicker. You'll have to put the shifter down to first to get it alll the way out.
