so, theres this new kid at work, hes very cocky and he just got a 90 - 91 Si hatch the other day and wants to race me. i asked him what its got done to it, he tells me it has a magnaflow exhaust, coilovers, and a chip.. i was like yea ok whatever. he said with the chip plugged in it revs to over 8500 and gives him tons of power, so i ask if i can take it for a drive, so he hands me the keys and tells me not to spin the tires (yea right... like i'd do that :rolleyes: ) haha
so i take it out behind our work and pound the fuck outta this thing, well.. it hit limiter at 4500... (odd, my 90 pm6 ecu hits 7200...) i try to do a burnout in this POS and it hits limiter at 4000 with the clutch in, so i dump it and it wheel hops like mad. so much that it actually kicks it outta gear haha, so i'm bringing it back in and the limiter still hasnt changed, still hitting 4500. i give him his keys back and i'm like "yea, i'll race u now for sure" lol. his car is so slow, it bounces if u hit a fuckin leaf lol (must be APC coilovers :evillol: ) but hes like "oh did u let the chip warm up so it would work?" lol i've never in my life heard of a chip that has to "warm up" to work right. so it comes to the end of the night, (i get off half hour after him) and i walk outside and he knows i get off at 9:30. get into my car, look around and hes nowhere to be seen....... i wonder why :) if he gets the balls to race me then i'll be sure to post up what happens and what he'll say about him losing

well i was chatting to a guy in a car store when i bought my fuel fitler and apparently his rover 216 GTI (d16A9) is the Vtec model but it only has 130 BHP, i just nodded and went "ah right.......cool" lol

Why would the rev limiter kick in 4000? You said it was an Si? That would mean a D16A1 engine, right? Redline 6500, rev limiter 7100? That chip must have screwed something up.

my old b2 did that tho, hit rev limiter at 4800 when it was cold then afterwards when it warmed up it was higher..... but it also happened on cold days, in the summer it was fine

my pm6 hits like 6500 before it warms up, then its 7200

why do you guys even know what you bounce the rev limiter at when your car is cold?

why does the limiter change when the car warms up? Sounds like something is wrong... My car doesnt do that, i always bounce at 6800. Only done it a couple times (when my shift like dial gets moved or im fucking around)

Usually it's a safety thing programed into the ECU. If the engine isn't warm the oil isn't lubing right, so when it's cold, hitting high rpms can do more damage than when it's warm. Also, I've heard (not 100% sure) but some of the new ecu's won't let you rev to full rpm when the clutch is in. My friends 96 hatch cx won't rev past like 5800 or so with the clutch in. I've never had my limiter kick in lower than about 6800 myself, but I don't try and hit the limiter either. But ya - my guess - safety thing.

Most all newer ( I know most all 96 models and up anyway) GM stuff will only let you rev to 5grand with the clutch in.

i can always rev to 6800, but when im in gear and i rev that high and hit the limiter, it feels like hitting a brick wall. I only bounce in neutral. In gear it just like stops the engine completely (what it feels like).

well... raced him tonight
beat him by 5 car lengths first time
he used the excuse "my chip didnt kick in in 3rd" but i was 2 lenghts ahead of him at that point anyways

2nd race. he beat me by 2 lengths because 1, i launched at 2 and the clutch slipped a bit, short shifted to second, slipped a bit more and hit the limiter cuz i wasnt paying attention to the tach, and hit 3rd and started pullin a bit cuz the clutch didnt slip

and he was saying his chip worked that time.... i've NEVER heard of a chip working once and awhile. its fucked but meh, when my car hooked up i killed him, all that matters :)

i told him i have a ZC and they come 1.6 ONLY. i cant help but to laugh, oh and i found out he blew it doing a burnout, he couldnt get the tires to spin so they used bleach and oil on the ground and he kept it pegged at 8 grand or more lol dumbass
