A greater mechanic mind than mine please!!!!

Any help would be nice. I am getting no fuel to the carb. I changed the fuel pump even though it is getting suction. The new fuel pump is giving me the same results. All of the sudden, out of the blue, I started my 68, got about 2 miles down the road and she stalled. I waited about 5 mins. and she started, for another 2 miles. This continued till I got her home. I changed the filter, no avail. then the pump, no avail, and now she won't start at all. Yes, the car does have gas. Now, I opened the line to see if fuel would pump out from the pump itself, and whaala, nothing. I would say vapor lock if it was hot, but she ran fine in the 110 degree weather in Tucson, Az. Now it's in the 40-50 range and no dice. Any help would be nice. It is one of two cars me and my lady use for work, so I have 1.5 days to get it started again. Thanks

I'm a little confused...
You say the fuel pump has suction at the beginning of your post, and then later you say that there is no fuel coming out of it.... What is the situation with it right now? Are you sure that the fuel pump is properly installed? There is a pin that rides on the cam behind the fuel pump, is it in the proper place? You also say that you opened the line, where did you open it? at the carb? Did you check your fuel line for kinks or cracks? If it is getting fuel to the carb, is there a possibility that the float has dried up?

I'm just trying to get a bead on your situation.

Yes, I covered the hole form the rubber tube going from the fuel tank to the pump, turned it over, and felt suction, as though the pump was working, then, I closed the line and opened the other side of the pump, leading to the carb. At that point, fuel should have came out of the pump since there was no line to the carb. There was none, like the suction wasn't strong enough(this is a new pump). I then connected the line from the pump to the carb at the pump and opened the line at the carb end. Still no fuel. I made sure that the pin was in the right place to pump the pump. I didn't check for kinks because the car has been running fine for about 1.5 years. This is just within 2 days. There is no fuel getting to the carb. The filter is next to the carb and clear so you can see it full or empty. Before, when it just started to stall, the filter would fill up and I could drive as long as the fuel lasted in the filter, perhaps 2 miles. Now, the filter container isn't filling up. I changed the filter first. Would an electric in-line pump work you think? I don't wan't to spend $100 for it, but I don't know what else to do. Basically, there is not enough suction for the fuel to get thru the line I think.

Wow, I'm stumped....

Time to check the tank, and the lines (for good measure) I think. Maybe something got dumped into the tank without your knowledge, and is blocking the flow? This has happened to me before. A layer of crap was stuck to the screen inside the tank (there's a filter in there too) and I had no fuel getting to the carb.

Just a shot in the dark, but you never know...

I'm not a "great mechanical mind" by any means. Just trying to help.

This is a 68 you're having trouble with?

Pull the tank, remove the sending unit assembly, and change the fuel pickup "sock" after you're sure to have all the crap removed from inside the tank.
