I just replaced the engine in my 1997 blazer, old engine had 120k and a blown piston...anyways, all connections made but i have no power to anything other than alternator, starter, and traced power line to box under abs system...line in has power...I have checked my distribution panel - no power, and i need to know if there is a wire that should run to this panel or if the starter should have another wire on it...have been told sometimes the starter wire also has a lead to the dist panel...please help it's COLD OUTSIDE...please reply or im me...

Check your ground to the engine block to the bat, check your grounds from the engine block to the frame.

starter to frame good, starter to block good...alt to block good...
does the alternater have a wire to the battery AND to the main wire harness?
have a black wire and forgot where it went to...tooks pics but didnt get this one wire...have it on block right now (it is black)

There should be two wires to the alternator. One wire comes from the positive battery cable and the other wire comes from the main wire harness of the vehicle. I think that the two wires are green and black. I am not for certain though, I have to go check mine. But there should be two wires to the alternator. Hope that helps you bud. Let us know of any updates.

Possibly a blown fuse?
Oh also, the 1997 is the bad year for ignition switches going bad in the steering column. It is a black box on the underside of the colum.
Causes the no power condition.
Do a search for ignition switch and you will see the other 1997 owners plagued with this problem.

found the problem, black wire from wiring harness, (checked my photos from before removal) connects to back of alternator on the POSITIVE along with the wire running to the battery...why cant people keep a color scheme? anyways...problem fixed...one more that has been an issue...
interior lights, started staying on all the time even when switch was turned into oof position...(dome light) dimmer switch...same with glove box light and eventaully was burning fuses...when fuses burned, horn and rear wiper no longer worked as well...eventually found out that the reciever module for the keyless entry, lock, had gone bad (still worked) until a fuse was blown anyway, but once it was disconnected all prblems went away EXCEPT now i have no keyless and for some reason the driver side door lock will no longer work under power, only manual...I tell ya...with as many quirks as these 97 blazers have...im not sure i want to keep mine...new engine runs great and only has 120k on body...anyone iterested...$5500 if you are...

FYI, The ignition module indeed has been trouble...has been replaced 2x in the past year or so...always with symptoms to stalling and or no start...
problems with engine cutting out randomly...fuel pump has been replaced, along with injectors. Still after 2x ignition switches the problem is back...
