Probation is a BIOTCH!!!

Well, I really didn't want to tell this story, but I figured I would just to humor myself a bit.

Well as the title stated "Probation is a Biotch" it's true. Well, just a few weeks ago I was given a notice that I have too many points towards my liscense (77/70). So thus I had to set up an interview with a hearing officer.

I finally had my interview yesterday and it was by far one of the most nerve racking experiences of my life. I was so worried that my liscense would be gone, and that would be that. But I was very fortunate in my situation. The officer I went to see was a really cool guy, granted I had to wait and extra 40 mins for my scheduled meeting.

Anyway, we discussed my situation, and I was given three options:
1. Take traffic school, and have 50 points taken off my liscense (I can't do, only eligible every 3 years, took it last year)
2. Denied liscense for one month, pay $25 reinstatement fee, and have points down to 35.
3. Probation for one year (Day before my birthday), and have my points cut down, to half.

I chose option 3. Thus I can't receive any tickets through the remainder of the year, otherwise I'm automatically forced to do option 2. He told me option 3 was the wisest choice of the 3. So, luckily my dad and I work at the same times in the morning, so I can ride in with him.

As for racing, and driving fast, it's a big NO NO. So, I'm kinda down about it. I love my car, and challenging others to a little race here and there, but I have to keep it on the down low. Really sucks. I know this isn't exactly street racing, but it's sorta linked to it, because I can't while I'm on Probation. But a year is such a long time, but the winter will be fine. I don't drive too much. As for the summer time, I'm really screwed. That's when it's funnest to go out, and do what not. Well, hope some of you can relate because this really is a biotch to deal with. Well, had to vent to some of you guys. late...

Wow... thats a shit load of points, how did you even manage to get that many? The only speeding ticket I've gotten gave me 4 points, that means you'd have to get like 18 tickets, I highly sugest you get the best radar detector money can buy!

They just added up over the years. Well, I do have a radar detector. It's a pretty good one. Just stupid things, Utah actually has a pretty weird point system. What can you do? Late...

Chris I can't believe you live in Springville, My son lives in the Art City and I'm from Prove. Tell me about Utah's crazy driving laws' I ram'ed a bank robber's car and the police got him and charged me with felony reckless driving. I years probation and $2,500 fine.
My suggestion is head up to Bonnieville Raceway and vent there. If you don't you'll pay the price, ask my son. He lost his licence for 3 years then after that they followed him like flys on shit.
If you have to race go out to Kuney's

I'm from Utah too and been driving here for quite a few years. I speed very often and get into races and despite that I have a perfectly clean record. I don't even use a radar detector. The fact is: all you need to stay out of trouble is just some common sense.

Drive down to Springville, it's only like 10 minutes drive from Prove and teach him how to keep his donkey out of trouble. I would but I live in Mexico now. I'm a Wetback Gringo.
Eather that or show him where Kuny's at. It's good but not for cars over 130MPH. We use to run our hottie's up Spanish Fork canyon by Trogan Powder. Use to run my Pro mod there as it was the only place with enough room to shut down. Use to freak people out when I blasted by them at 200+, then popped your chute.
Asby Snow and me use to go up there and put on a show for the kids. Him in his Hemi powered Willis coupe and me in Hemi 27 T.
I remember one night the Utah county sheriff showed up and Asby had his car up on the trailer and mine was jacked up. I was changing my slicks to 14" street tires. The sheriff came over to me and asked, "whats going on"? I looked around cause their was about 3-400 kids up there racing, and said, Looks like some church pick-nick to me. Then he asked me what I was doing and I told him I had a flat tire and was changing it. He said both of them? I told him yea both, bad luck. After they left it took me a hour to stop laughing.
Damn that was fun.

Well, we sat down and he told me what tickets are holding me down. Here they are:

1. My first ticket, a year after I got my liscense. Speeding 10 Over=35 points
2. Improper turn on a red light=50 (this is about a year later)
3. The day before my birthday I got another improper signalling ticket which was another 50 points. But I guess after a year without getting a ticket cuts your other points on your liscense in half. So I ended up with 77/70 points on my liscense which isn't bad. I don't know how it happened like that. It doesn't seem to add up to me. Anyway.

I've had speeding tickets as well, but I was fortunate enough to take traffic school for one, and then another I was able to because the judge I faced allowed it. But other than that, I really do try to be a good driver. I guess my only argument could me male competitiveness (<is that word?). Which I know is stupid. I'm 20 years old, and it's around that time when a guy really defines who he is. I know that isn't the right way, but it's what I love to do (driving). Well, I'll take everyone's advice, and of course be a safe driver. Thanks everyone, it's nice to know who is here in Utah as well. I though Polygon, and I were the only one in these forums. Late...

What states use the point system? I have two tickets back home in Texas, and haven't heard anything about points on my liscense?

Zgringo yeah there are a lot of good places to run in utah.

CivRacer95 yeah I'm from Provo I actually live in the Glenwood student dorms at the intersection of University Parkway with University Ave.

BTW I do understand your need to race, I know i have it too. But you also have to use your judgement when to speed and when to race.

Often the trick to not get tickets is: Do not stand out!!! This is how cops pick you out of a crowd. I've been speeding and racing for years and i have a clean record by doing this. Just realise when it is a good time to speed and race and when is not and you'll be OK.

There is also the legal option:http://utahscca.com/

you can find there the utah autox schedule. Its mainly in the summer but its uber fun. Heck you'll even race against cops(there is a police sponsored car participating).

You also have the options to race very late at night in the canyons. My favorite run is in some Springfield canyon (don't know the name but its the one that goes to Springhaven Lodge). But be very very careful if you ever run in those one mistake and you're history.(i'm a bit wary about recomending this because of teh danger)

that is a LOT of points for everything....for speeding 10 over dont u usually get only like 4 or 5 points?? 35 seems like a lot...just for goin 10 over...and 50 for makin an illegal turn?? then again...in delaware...you lose ur license after like 20 points...i dunno....

i3o2Matt: Yeah some states have their own point system. California has like 8 points, and Utah has 70 for under 21 and 200 for over 21. But not every state uses the point system. A few of them do, if not half of them do. But I didn't know how it worked here in Utah, so I guess I'm paying the penalty for it. Just gives me the opportunity to smarten up.

Neutrino, it's Hobble Creek Canyon here in Springville. I've been there plenty of times. I have quite a bit of friends who live up there. Yeah, the canyons really are dangerous. And all long trip through there. If anything I go like 5 under the speed limit because of the deer and what not through there. But occasionally I'll go a bit faster than normal. I love it up there though. Thanks for the tips. SCCA huh? That sounds like something that would satisfy my interest very much. Hats off to you for helping me out on that one. Late...

Exactly!

I have gotten in a lot of races, especially since getting the GTC, and I have one ticket for crossing the divider gore while entering the freeway. I don't have any for speeding or racing.

Just takes common sense.

Read through the posts. My second post in this thread will tell you what I got the tickets for. Not being an ass. But yes I have had speeding tickets which were pretty much the same as the first, but I took traffic school for them. Most of my points were because of improper signalling, which is something that I have already fixed months ago. But you can't tell me that everybody signals properly. Most people signal during the same time as they move into the other lane, or right at the light they turn at, etc... Well, this is what I have seen here in Utah. Same with New York (where I'm originally from). But of course, I haven't had a speeding ticket since last year if I remember correctly. If not earlier this year. Late...
