I just bought a 1993 Honda Del Sol Si, it does not say V-tec anywhere, but the previous owner insist it is a V-tec, the engine on CarFax says 1.6L L4 MULTIPOINT FI. Is Multipoint a V-Tec motor? Thank you for your help.

look for a VTEC solenoid... I've seen SI models that don't say VTEC anywhere on them. The VTEC solenoid is a black plastic cylinder by the distributer. Good luck.

I saw the VTEC solenoid, it was beige or close to that color. Thank you Sol Girl, you have been so much help to me.

Yeah, that's it. Mine's beige / yellowish. You can also check the engine code. It's stamped on the block below the distributor next to your header. Your motor should say D16Z6 on it which is the Si motor.

I wonder if the motor is SOHC or DOHC? How can you tell? Is it worth it the get an engine swap to a DOHC?

trust me... you would know if your engine was DOHC... it would look like the attached image (not as pretty, but the same general idea.). And it depends on what you're looking for. If you're just looking for a fun, relatively quick car, stay with the SOHC and let your gas money stay in your pocket. If you want performance, go DOHC.

This is what the DOHC motor looks like. It's a shot of my engine when I first bought it so it's not pretty but it'll give you an idea.

As for the swap, it really just depends on your budget and what you're looking to get out of the car. Decide what kind of power you're looking for and what you'll be doing with it (daily driver, drag, auto-x, etc.) and then that will be the basis of what you'll decide to buy or do to it.

Hehe. Well it's definately better than it was. Still needs work, but it's a work in progress. :p
Glad to see you were finally made a mod. Been waiting on that one for almost a year. :D
