k everybody i have a 91 tsi awd and i pulled my engine and trans out to check the timing and to fix a problem with the trans. im wondering what everybody thinks i should check on the engien while its out. im planning to....
replace the...
tbelt
tbelt tensioner
all vac lines since they are hooked up weird
head gasket
valve cover gasket
thermostat
bradided fuel hose to replace all turbo/wastegate lines
new ac, power steering, and alternator belts
change all the fluids. coolant, oil, trans, transfer case, and rear diff. i dont think im gonna bother changing the brake or power steering fluid unless it looks crappy

im also planning to take out the front b-shaft belt so i dont have to worry about that.

the mods i plan to do while its out are
3 inch catback
hard intake piping
mbc
boost guage
pcv catch can

stuff i dont know if i should do now or not.
water pump
drive shaft u-joints.

the car already has a act clutch (not sure what rating it was on it when i bought it). it also has a ported and polished 14b, a k&n intake filter and all the free mods

am i missing anything?
im planning for the car to be a fast street car that im gonna keep for awhile. im probably going to stick with the 14b for awhile. i might upgrade to a 16g later on if i find a good deal on one

i would go ahead and do the water pump while you are in there because if you dont then maybe you'll have to do it while the car is put back together. the pump might be fine for a long time, but i would do it to have peace of mind. i did mine while it was all apart. it was only $40 and was super easy.

Good call. If you see anything that looks like it's leaking oil, do the seal (duh) ;)

Your car will be like new!

hopefully. i dont think ive told the story on it yet so i guess i will now.

the good
new tires
front strut bar
ported and polished turbo with lower miles
k&n air filter
new brake pads
pioneer tweeters in the front pioneer 6x9's in the back
grant racing steering wheel
free mods done already
new front struts

the bad
stuck in second gear
ran like shit till it warmed up(this is what happens when the coolant temp sensor wires are held on with tape lol)
pass side headlight mounting area is smashed up from a previous accident
3 different colors
no head unit for the radio
leather seats are shot

the bad that i didnt find until later. :eek7:
cam sensor wires taped together they fell apart
other sensor wires taped on
vac lines screwed up
sunroof leaks

so now i have it at work with the engine and trans pulled out and hanging from the engine lift inside until i get the right bolts to put it on the stand lol

Turbo bolts work for holding the motor to the stand ;)

If you pull the front bshaft you MUST also remove the rear. That means pulling the oil pump. I would still recomend it. See the vfaq for the basic procedure.
