like the one in your pic what thats 6th gen i think

I hear that they are very hard to come by in the USA I think your best bet is to either import one yourself or just be patient and wait for one to turn up, I had to wait 7 months before I found a good one so dont expect one in a hurry. I dont know about over there, but a professional importing company will find exactly the car you want, import it over and organise all the relivant paperwork for you in about 10 weeks. Although we dont have to "Smog" (is that the right term?) our cars to make them road legal.

ive only heard of 2 6th gen gt-4's in america...you wont find one kid, sorry, you could find of of the few st185- (5th gens) tho, but expect to spend around $10,000 and itll probably be in minnesotda or florida, thats where most of them are

nialusa
12-01-2004, 11:46 AM
I`ve heard of a few in Canada????? (6th gens) If you dont mind traveling up there?

12-01-2004, 11:50 AM
yeah your better off finding one in canada

You wont find a ST215 in Canada... Only ST185's.

and im from PA also :) i live near Pittsburgh. I live in Moon Township

fyi a st215 is a toyota cadlina... its st-205 in nialusa's pic.... and yeah that was sarcasm cuz if you even do find a GT-4 6th gen in the USA or Canada theres a slim to none chance ur gunna convince the owner to give it up (he had to go tohrugh ALOT of shit and ALOT of $$$ to own it) and i wouldnt even doubt ud spend under $15K for it cuz thats AT LEAST what he spent to buy it and get it over

oh and FYI i wouldnt buy a car from cancada neway, its a very humid place and along with humidity comes rust... and rust is the opiitomy of cars

nialusa
01-11-2005, 02:30 AM
Rust shouldnt be too much of a problem with 6th gen celicas, as they were fully galvonised (or however you spell it) not sure about the other generations but it sounds like youve got a snowflakes hope in hell of finding a 6th gen gt4 in the states anyway......shame.....they`re an awsome car.

91 Celica St
01-11-2005, 02:02 PM
only the floor panels are basically rust protected, alot of tiems i see rust in wheel wells of gt-4's and in the trunks ...if the whole car was galvanised it weould weigh a TON, i used to work at a plumming supply warehouse and they sold galvenised piping and one small 3' piece of piping weight like 5 pounds

nialusa
01-11-2005, 02:40 PM
Errr, come on, think about it for a while, there is a big difference between a galvanised pipe and a body panel, there are different methods of galvinising something aswell, Audi have been galvonising cars for years before they started using aluminium.

A snip taken from an Audi sight

- It was the first Audi to have a fully galvonised body, leading to a 10 year Guarantee against corrosion,

91 Celica St
01-11-2005, 03:42 PM
oh no im not debating or disagreeing, all floorboards and panels are coated, but the whole body is not made of a galvansied product...it would wegh alot if it was...the audi is but the gt-4 isnt... still tho its not a guarenttee against rust

91 Celica St
01-11-2005, 03:45 PM
the audi that is galvanised is brand new i presume...tehe gt-4 was made over 10 years ago

nialusa

the audi that is galvanised is brand new i presume...tehe gt-4 was made over 10 years ago
It was talking about the Audi 80 in 1988 - 17 years ago

91 Celica St
01-11-2005, 04:08 PM
k...hen i was wrong about the audi, but the entire body and chassis is not galvanised, the car would be insanley heavy if it was... it is powder galvanised coated but it is not made of galvinised metal...as i stated something galvanised that fits in your hand weighs about 5 pounds, imagine a car that was entierly galvanised

nialusa
01-11-2005, 04:21 PM
Heres a clip Toyota themselves -

Corrosion protection is high in priority on the current model with all body panels, including the engine bay and floor pan, being pressed from corrosion resistant galvanised steel. Three grades of this zinc plated material are used dependent on the corrosion risk involved

"being pressed from corrosion resistant galvanised steel. Three grades of this zinc plated material are used dependent on the corrosion risk involved"

you know what pressed metal is right? that means theres 3 layers of zinc PRESSED with galvanized steel...there basically coated with galvanised steel

nialusa
01-12-2005, 02:15 AM
I know what pressed metal is, but you clearly dont. Pressing metal is just a way of forming the shape of a peice of metal and has nothing to do with the galavanising process.
Galvanising is done in one of two ways, either hot, or cold.

Hot galvanising is done by dipping the sheet metal into a vat of Zinc, and we are talking microns thick 1000th of a inch or less.

Cold Galvanising uses an electric current to ket the zinc particles to stick to the sheet steel, again only microns thick.

Both ot these methods can be done before or after the metal is pressed into shape.

Go and check out "How stuff works" and do at least a little research bud. Cause what you just posted was totaly incorrect, well almost totaly incorrect, no offence or anything:bigthumb:

so that's galvanising... hmm so if my rotors are zinc plated, that means that they were galvanised with zinc?

nialusa
01-12-2005, 01:48 PM
Yes. Almost all Galvanising is done with Zinc as it dosnt rust/corrode and it goes on very thinly, about 100th the thickness of a human hair.

SigmaProjects
01-12-2005, 03:12 PM
yea, i know the reason for zinc plating (why i had the option added to my rotors), just didn't know that it's called galvanising.

nialusa
01-12-2005, 03:41 PM
Not sure if Galvanising and plating are the same thing, would have to check up on that but i think they are very similar. I think plating uses the electronic method of applying the Zinc???

SigmaProjects
01-12-2005, 04:59 PM
but i thought you said that's what cold galvanising is. "Cold Galvanising uses an electric current to ket the zinc particles"

nialusa
01-13-2005, 02:53 AM
Platting and galvanising may well be exactly the same thing, I`ve not checked the in`s and out`s of platting and have only just learned the tech background on galvanising. Instead of going by what I said, how about looking for yourself and doing some research like I had to?? then you can tell us all what the difference is between platting and galvanising......if any!

91 Celica St
01-13-2005, 12:42 PM
yeah but i took a metal shop calss in high school and the teacher had explained plating as one marterial is plated with another material...meh i guess knowlege is lost through the years

SigmaProjects
01-14-2005, 12:59 PM
eh, whatever, there are other things to research, just thought you knew.

Think I may have come across a little harsh, I wasnt having a go....just sick of looking into something that a) I`m not that interested in, b) makes my brain hurt. and I whole heartedly agree, there are much better things to research. :)

it's aight, im at work with a headache :chair: I think I just need more food. Kinda back to topic, how's your GT-4's intake set up?

nialusa
01-15-2005, 01:54 PM
The Intake is still standard for now apart form a K&N panel filter, the next step will be to remove the resonator box which should allow smoother airflow. Then a new exhasut cause the one I have is too noisy, sounds nice but its just too much on those long journeys. After that I plan to hit the mods big time, hopefully around 400BHP will be achieved by the end of this year.
As you can see from the picie, its all standard for now

ABS is for girls who cant drive  (joke)
I`m in Middlesbrough bud where bouts are you????

The st205 comes nowhere near the US emissions for street use. You`d have to rip the heart and soul from the car to get it legal for the states

& my 300th post, bugger I must have too much spare time

Pretty clean. Are all GT-4 painted differently on the outside then the engine bay? Or was your car originally painted white (or is that silver?)?

nialusa

it was origionally silver, thanks to assholes with a key, it is now the colour you see before you.
