2004 Spec V Clutch Problems

Has anyone had probelms with their clutch on their 6 speed Spec V?
I have 11,000 miles and the car is 12 months old. I drive it normally, not real hard and don't race it. Then going through a toll booth one day the clutch literally, "exploded." the Nissan dealership claims the firewall, clutch disk and supports and the pressure plate were scorched/burned. Thus, not covered under the warranty. So, now I out $1,000 and have no confidence in the performance of the vehicle.
Also, I do know how to drive a stick, this is my third car I had with a stick and the first blown clutch.
Any Ideas?,
