Black-out lights for F-bird

I have a question I'm hoping someone can anwser for me. Are black-out tail lights legal in all 50 states? I was considering buying a set for my F-bird. I just don't know how to find out if they're legal or not. Ever saw Corvette C5 rims on a F-bird?...what are your thoughts on that...

By blackout, do you mean like the '79 TA taillights (Black when brakes/taillights are off, red when they are on. If so, you should be OK, since the '79 was sold everywhere.

Well I have a 99 firebird and manufacturers of the Black-out tail lights for that model are Lund and Ventshade products. the tail lights are black when you are looking at them but to say that you could see the brake lights when you apply brakes, I'm unsure of... I'm hoping that's how it works...

They are not 50 state legal...Im not sure which states you can't have them in, but I know that if they are not DOT approved, a cop can give you a ticket if they are on your car...at least in Florida.

if there the ones that appear pitch black from the rear..they light up as soon as you hit the breaks..and yes they are legal in nearly every state..besides 2 or 3..not sure of which ones though

Illegal in Delaware, that much I can tell ya.

I have recardo edition tinted tail lights in my 82They appear pitch black,unless direct sunlight hits them(stock).in oklahoma they dont allow neon or blinking tag display lights,or clear/blackout lenses.They also have outlawed neon ground effects,limo tint windows,You are also not allowed to drive in the city with uncovered offroad lights,like kc lights,or otherwise.They(meaning metro police)have gotten more strict,because they have done away with vehicle inspections in oklahoma.I would check with your local highway patrol station,and make sure your state allows such thing.Better safe than sorry.Altezza headlights should be outlawed,and i bright light anyone who has them,in oncoming lanes,just to let them know they are blinding me.

If they are not factory installed (which means anything that lowers the factory illumination when on) You can pretty much count on getting pulled over and ticked if THE MAN desires.

I know they look cool but why would you want to risk getting it in the rear. You should see how dark some of the cars are here, or not see as the case may be..

I have them on my 94 and they do wonders for the back ass of the car, hides the 80's looking slot marks on the 93-97 birds, which i think look horrible. I think the black outs look better then the honey comb on 98+ cars too. You will get pulled over and ticketed. But not that often. I have had mine for 3 years and only got a ticket for them once. Its actually a good thing to have in one way--cuz you know the speeding tix are coming your way if you own an f-body--so u can use the tail lites as a bargining tool with the cop if he is cool. "write me for the tail lites, i'll promise i'll slow down officer". I live in NY--they are deffinatly illegal.

I don't have blackouts but I've been told that they are illegal in California.

NOt to try and dredge up a dead thread, but out of curiousity, I looked for taillight covers for my bird, and while they (GTS) manufactures covers for 86-92 3rd gens, they state all but Trans Am ( here's what I mean (http://www.accessconnect.com/gtstail.htm) ). Any clue why this is? I didn't think the design of the taillights was any different from the formula. OR, if anyone can toss up a link for ones that will fit an 87 TA, feel free :P

What's wrong with normal taillights? Besides the honeycomb look is great. By the way the C5 rims look great on a t/a or fbird. Theres a set on ebay right now for 595.00 buy it now. 17s in front & 18s in back look the best.
