rear disc brake question

ive gotten my front pads changed on my 96 taurus but the rear disc pads are confusing me.i try to get the caliper cylinder to go in but it wont budge why is that?this is my first time changing rear disc pads im used to drum brakes on the back.any help would be greatly appreciated.thanks

The rear caliper does not push in like the front, it screws in. There are grooves in the face of the caliper that will accept a tool (which I understand can be rented) and you turn it like a screw. I used a couple of screwdrivers when I did mine, I learned then that they don't push in.

you can buy the tool that goes on the end of your drill or socket wrench for 10-15 bucks at your local automotive store.

just ask them for the disk brake tool to screw the cylinder back in.
