Focus : Worth Buying Or Not?

Hey everybody. I've got a chance to buy a Focus wagon (2003). Is it a 'good' car or a lemon? Let's hear your responses. I've got a '98 Caravan right now that was definitely built on a Monday morning! Focus or not, the Caravan is history!

Cheers!

For the most part, it's a great car. It is true that the car has had some reliability issues, but by 03, they began to become fewer and fewer. Assuming it has the Zetec, (the DOHC motor) it has great power for it's size and is pretty zippy, even more so with a 5 speed. Handling is great out of the box, and the car is just plain easy to live with, having decent (up to 30mpg) mileage, even better depending on your driving, as well as a great interior with nice seats. Interior room is really no issue; I have a ZX3, with what appears to be a cramped rear seat, but everyone that's been back there has said it's very roomy. Overall, it's a good car...by 03 many of the bugs had been worked out of the car.

What does a SVT have to do with a wagon? NOTHING!
THe 2003 wagons are very stable cars, either motor (spi or zetec) is great.

lol yea the SVT in this has nothing to do with the car he might buy...i have one its very fun...now that thats cleared up onto the subject...unless you wanna be known as the guy with a grocery-go-getter i would skip the wagon and get a ZX3/5 or SE

actually drag people prefer the wagon because it has better aero dynamics.

The wagon also rides a bit smoother then the sedans/Zx3/Zx5 because it is just that much heavier. It's a small difference, not noticed unless you are very familiar with the cars.

I sold them so after spending alot of time i noticed it.

As far as reliability, well, other then brand new '03 is about the best year. I highly recommend the Zetec engine because it has fail-safe cooling and plenty of power.

The car is versatile, comfortable, a pleasure to drive. Any of your friends and family can ride with you as well. I'm 6'4.5" tall. The Focus is the only car in it's class that i can set myself up in the driver seat, then get in the back seat right behind it and have leg room and head room.

The head room is best in the Wagon/ZX5 by the way.

Good call on the Focus Wagon!

I have seen sketches for a SVT Wagon in Focus Fanatic. IT LOOKS SICK! I would get groceries in it.

YES the ford focus is a great car to buy, id go with the new 2003 -2004 2.3 Liter Ford Focus ZX3 Duratec, available in NY and Cali, and a few other states. I say this because it is the sportiest look of them all! The 2.3 liter doesnt have a lot of available aftermarket parts at this time but they are being made(marcymotorsport, focus-central, and focussport.com) mine has a true cold air intake, Flex pipe back exhaust and headers.
