Temperature gauge

Temperature gauge … was working fine until yesterday.
My car is mk2 golf diesel 1990 200,000 miles. (Needs to be replaced I know but must hang on a bit longer) After a mad dash to work the temp gauge started to drop off to a much cooler temp. Have replaced temp sender nil fix. The voltage at the sensor is 10 volts is this correct or is my voltage stabilizer up the spout? If it is this where is it mounted? I guess if the stabilizer is ok … It has to be the gauge

Does the gauge move at all? Could the thermostat be stuck open, not letting the engine get warm enough?

Thanks for the reply
No have checked the thermostat think it has to be the gauge. Will slave a resistor into the end of the sender cable tomorrow and see what happens. I believe 47 ohm should give me a hot indication

2000-3000 = cold, 200-300 = normal, so 47 should be on the hot side. I think if you jumper the two pins (0 Ohms) the needle should top out.
