Homemade scrambler

This doesn't particularly have to do with a camaro, but if it works, I'm going to put one in mine. I was doing some research and was planning to buy a scrambler-- possibly a Rocky Moutain Radar or something like that. Anyhow, I asked one of my homies what he thought, and he had read on this website that you can make your own using Gunn Diodes out of old ham radios. You power these, one in front, one in back, and they work better than a scrambler, they will even set off other radar detectors (I'm doubting these are anything close to legal). They need to be powered by 5-10v, and this doesn't match to the normal 13v of my car. Any electricians out there who know how to get 5v from 13v???

Get a car adapter ( cigarette lighter plug in ) from radio-shack that has the 3 , 6 , 7 , 9 , 12 volt switch on it and just set it at either 6 - 7 or 9V and that should work just fine. Costs maybe 10 bucks.

Lot of work though

Depends on the disposition of the installation. If it's just a matter of sending the power...then get a cheap two port circuit board and solder the lines right to their pins. if it's more than that it may get a bit more technical and take longer / harder.

um, go get yourself a potentiometer for a buck at radio shack and call it a night. not that hard to regulate the voltage, just use a multimeter to set it correctly but make sure you do your math and have the correct currents and voltages all across the system...
