Can someone help me with a 89 blaz that is acting as if the alt. is dead and killing the battery. The truck buzzes when the dash lights are on and the gas-oil-and temp are dead day or night. It just happened to this one and is very much like a problem with my last blazer but my gas and oil worked during the daylight hours in that truck. I`ve allready replaced the alt. and the battery but she still does it-anyone have any ideas or has seen this before? Plus does anyone have a page for 4wd actuator replacement/testing the could suggest. Thanks Hecksterz

Have you checked the fuses? Check and see which one is blowing if any at all.

Check that all engine grounds are properly cleaned and tightened and that all your wires are intact going from the alternator to the battery and everything else.

Thanks for the reply BlazLT -I checked all that and wasn`t able to find anything or any blown fuses. Someone mentioned to me that the dimmer switch maybe shorting and it can affect the guages in that way. What do you think?

Might be, but you definitely has a dead short somewhere under the dash.

Does it blow when using the dimmer or when you open your door?

Yea, I would replace the dimmer switch.

Replace the bulb and without touching the dimmer, see if the light will blow when opening the driver's door and the light turns on.

Will do tomorrow for sure-but if the bulb blows with the door as well you figure dead short somewhere? Thanks again

Try adding a light Bulb in the dome light if like after 15 secs it starts steaming then u have a serious electrical pro. i had the same with my 93 and my pro was located where the sterrling coloum is located inside the wired had a short which melting and touched other wires i had to pay 500 to get it fix but u should be able to do it just for the part try looking into it b4 u short out more items

Mush-turned out to be my stock radio was shorting out somehow. Ended up solving the problem when radio fuse was removed-my 85 I had cooked the dome light like that but allowed the charging system to still work as long as I turned off the dash lights at night. I`m sure the 89 still has somesort of problem under there and as you mentioned will turn up again-I look into it and see what more I can find. Thanks
