Nice one, good looking interior, steering wheel should be a bit more glossy and bit more ivory, right? The carpet is perfect, great job. I would get lost with all of that wires on the engine :)

Looking mighty fine there already!
Ah, well I guess you can't have too many of these, is this the AMT kit BTW?
and ps, nice engine work, very realistic, and good luck for the rest of the build
(what colour it's gonna get?)

Hahaha thanks everyone, I actually have 3 of these kits, all being used for this project. An Iteleri/Testors drop top kit (donating its rims and tires and spare trunk parts) and 2 AMT kits ( a championship series, which I later found out is the same as production series, but with "trophies" in 1/25 scale)
I will post some more progress today... The steering wheel is more Ivory and glossy (it does not photograph well with my crappy camera and lighting set up. I also made a choke pull and put the keys in the ignition...I am trying to replicate some luggage pieces for the rear rack, does anyone have any in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? A briefcase may be? Thanks.

Always good to see your work Slk especially on a great classic subject like this.
And as far as scale luggage is concerned you may want to find the recent Revell reissue of the Aurora Aston Martin DB4. Lots of suitcases to go in the trunk and well detailed ones too.

Actually its the odd 1/25 scale kit from AMT.
Layla - Thanks for the tip.. off to ebay I go.
I got more stuff done, grill opened up with real mesh, battery, etc. Will post pics either tonight or tommorow.
The major parts to be done is the engeneering of the parts, as this is a very old tooling and very very speculative fit and finish.
The color will likely be slate metallic grey (similar to light gunmetal).

Nice work, this is some sweet build. This one and the roadster is two beautiful cars, don't know if they ever built better looking cars before or after these two, IMHO. A little about the subject. There was this article in a Swedish magazine on 300 SL, Gullwing. The owner bought it new and still had it in running condition some 30 years later. He never switched the engine off with the key because of the injection system. He put in second gear, stod on the brakes and released the clutch and stalled the engine. He said that if you turn off the ignition the engine will spin for a short period and the mechanical injection would still pump in fuel. This made it very hard to start again because off all the fuel in the cylinders.
I'll be back as soon as there is more progress!
