I have a 91 camaro rs 6cyl automatic. I went in to work fine, came out after 10 hrs and the car wouldn't start. When this has happened in the past, it's been the starter, replace it and all is well. NOT this time, the car still would Not say anything, no clicks, I could only hear the fuel pump. I've replaced the battery, starter, ignition switch other related parts and testing. Then a friend summized that there is no reason that the car is not starting by all other measures. He first got under the car and somehow made the starter jump, so we knew the starter was fine, we reverified everything else, then he ran a wire, he said by passed the ignition, then tried starting it....now the car is trying to start, but still won't quite catch? He's not sure which direction now that of trying to find a short and where to look or I've been reading the posting here and now other possibilities, like the vats, something about the service light being on and or flashing and what that means? Can anyone say more on this issue? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the VAT system is totalled f*****.
I haven't ever had anything similar to that happen to my maro' but I do have to click my ignition about 5 times before she'll crank to start.I was told it could be the built in Solenoid on the starter , due to the heat it obtains from the engine , it wears it out faster. I haven't actually looked into it more than that because it hasn't died completely on me yet so no need to.

Vacuum leak shouldn't stop if from cranking. The starter runs off electricity not vacuum. Has nothing to do with it.

Can you say whether it is wise to consider replacing the vats as far as cost or what?
If it the security system within the key, what are my options?

New key , 5 bucks.
Vats system = Hahahah!!!!!
Run some codes on her before replacing anything. Save some money and time.

I have another question for you....how wise is it to by pass the key security system...I'm thinking that this would make my car more vunerable to theft and or will that effect other things....what do you think?

all u gotta do is wait til the security light goes off.. but the lease it should go is about 3 minutes.. if it went over 3 minutes then its your security system.. but if its not it, then its something inside your motor. gotta have the computer sensor check before you mess with anything..

About that key issue....
My '92 was broken into before i bought it. (it doesnt run yet) And i dont have a key for it yet. But i need to "have the whole car run through the machine at a chevy department to get the right codes for the security system so i can have the right chip built into my key." Well, thats what im told. And i could care less if my car has a security system or not, (for now at least) so just to get it running, what should i replace? (Again, i dont care about the securty system for now, i just want her to run.)

Someone attempted to steal mine also, I still had my key though, but the steering column was tore up! Yet they still couldn't get the car. I took the car to person that repaired steering columns, he was able to repair the column and I was able to keep the same key and all for $80-100.00 out the door. One thing I understand about the security system is that if it's working correctly, it's just added security and protection for our vehicles! but on the other hand, if it's not working correctly it can be a pain! I hope this helps!

hey i have a 92 rs camero it doing the same thing it is the key switch go to cooks lock smith on poplar level road louisville ky it only 100 to 150 to get fix

Well, although it is tempting to drive to KY for the fix... from here, (here being California lmfao) that doesnt sound all that probable. Especially since my whole problem is that my car cant start until i get it fixed. haha
So im gonna still hope someone (that being you savvy) airs where they sent theirs to get the column repair. (chevy service station, dealer, specialist, w/e) And then if they cant help with the key, ill hit up my uncle, who just happens to be a locksmith. lol
And about that RS Towdad...
How much did you pick it up for? And what kinda repairs do you have to get (or already had done) on the car?

only thing that would cripple starting, ignition, and fuel is vats, sounds like your module crapped out. its located on the air ducting in the center of the dash, you gotta pull the dash to get to it. i suggest having the dealership do it unless you are sure you can handle it.
