I have a a 2001 Chevy Silverado Ext Cab Z71. I am looking at putting in a GM Dvd Navigation system. Example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38653&item=7937717489&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW&tc=photo I do not have the Bose sound system, and I've heard this is necessary to put in the nav system. What would I need to do to put this in, there must be a way to do it. Right?!?

Thanks

Sorry to say that it will not be a simple bolt in. since the 2003 and up radios (which that radio is) uses a totally different electrical system (class 2 serial data bus system). I was tryingto upgrade to the 6 disc indash cd changer but I figured out that I would have to rewire the entire truck, replace the part of the dash that the radio bolts to, the dash trim, have to get a body control module from a 03 and newer, and there may still be more. It was going to cost me over a thousand just toget the radio to work, not including the cost of the radio. It was too expensive for me to do so I abandened it and got a pioneer instead.

This is an old thread, but I have a question about the addition of the OEM Navigation to a silverado. Basically, what I have found so far is that the non-lux bose system version can be installed in the silverados, and any other similiarly equipped vehicle. My question is, if I do add the navigation system, do I need a seperate GPS antenna, or can I use the Onstar antenna? On vehicles that are factory equipped with the navigation systems, they don't have two GPS antennas, do they? So, how can I get my onstar antenna to work with the navigation?
