Which is better for gas milage

Hey, i have a 98 integ ls and im getting horrible gas milage. I just replaced my fuel filter and now i want to do a little more to make sure i get good milage. What would u recommend getting, Spark plugs and spark plug wires or a CAI. I know those both will help increase my gas milage. What would u recommend getting, the CAI or the plugs and wires. if i was going to get a CAI, i was thinking Ebay with K&N filter. plugs and wires are cheaper but CAI is more performance. What would u recommend??

Not assuming or accusing, but it you floor it everywhere you go. That wont help. Also i think using less grade fuel that needs to go in your tank will result in bad MPG too. And if you get any kind of intake...K&N is the way to go.

I think you will get worse gas mileage with an aftermarket intake.... reasoning being that it will suck more air than stock and the computer in your integra will recognize this and to combat the extra air it will throw a bit more fuel in there to keep your car from running lean.

if youre getting horrible mileage CAI isnt going to solve anything, Id spend money on a tune up to get it running good again before I mod it at all.

ok, cap/rotor/plugs/wires/air filter or CAI since you get a new filter, and I have also heard if you use high octane on an LS that doesnt require it you get less milage because of a smaller flame column or something, you get teh best burn out of the lowest octane that can be run safely in your engine.

and if you get CAI youre gonna love teh sound and hos it more than you already do and get worse milage I bet, especialy for the first few weeks after install.

when I bought my truck I got about 13 MPG if I was lucky, replaced the plugs/wires/cap/rotor/air filter, cleaned out the vaccum canister filter, re-timed it. and after this I am up in the 20's easy and can get high 20's if I drive it easy enough. low 30's if I granny it.

this is a realy abnormal gain though, timing was pretty far off, cap and rotor were OLD and burnt, filter was pretty dirty and also it had a stuck open T-stat that I replaced, so now it warms up which helps.

what mileage you getting now, and what RPM's you shift at.

for the CAI part,
it is believed that the CAI produces better combustion or combustion efficiency, therefore you should have less unburned gas.

reving the engine over 3000 rpm will cost gas.


Running you engine under 3000 rpms will greatly reduce fuel usage. do the test you'll see.


having an aftermarket restrictive muffler will greatly endanger fuel economy from reving over 3000 rpm

just a question for you guys... i get around 21-22 mpg in my teg. i do speed everywhere i go (heh) but do you guys think i should be getting more than that?

well I get 29-30 highway and 24 city, and believe me i drive it hard. first gear is almost always redlined to get me moving and around town i rarely bother shifting to third cuz i'm lazy and i like the feeling of the car when its on the edge and ready to bust loose, haha. When i drive on the highway I redline her in first and second to get up to speed then gently bring it through the rest of the gears to fifth. I know its not good for my car seeing as I have 165,000 miles but ehh its how i drive and i like it.



PS. those mileage numbers are from when I had 17's and also from when I had 4 studded snow tires. So i expect to get a bit better with regular tires on my 14" rims.

I get 27mpg in city.
But I have to admit I shift @ 3100 rpm... And I'm not ashamed, I only rev my car when I need its juice... I like the feeling of using 1 tank per 2 weeks are soo

i dont drive my car that hard, i shift at about 3100rpm. I get about 18-19mpg. I know that can be increased. So from what i hear i think i should go with the spark plugs and wires first before cai??

well I have the spark plugs set + new wiring + CAI but I can't say that with all that I save that much gas mileage.

When you rev you engine, do you feel the power coming out of it? Maybe your exhaust line is clogged or something?

Have you check your air filter? It should be cleaned once a year, or replaced once 2-3 years.

How is you oil? Not sure how much its affect gas mileage but maybe it can tell if your engine has a problem.

Get a tuneup...check your tirepressure.
