Foggy Headlights

Hi Everybody: I replaced the foggy & wet factory headlights on my 2000 LS with Brand new TYC lamps, after the initial installation they fogged up once but cleared up, NOW!! that the cooler weather is here they fog up most of the time!, What!! is the problem?? they are sealed as no water gets in when washing, is it possibly a venting problem?, any ideas are greatly appreciated, tell me what you all have done with your foggy lights.

What is TYC? I fixed mine by baking them in the oven at 350 for a few minutes, removed them and pressed the front and back till the headlight cooled. Never had the problem again.

TYC is a company that makes OEM replacement lamps for most makes of cars, they are identical to the original factory units except for the part numbers!

If you still have the OEM's check the glue that seals the two halves together if it is grey you can repair them by baking them in the oven. Search the forum a little and you will find a thread the describes the process in grat detail.

I sold the OEM units on e-bay, did not want to end up melting them!!, I did see that fix thread and they did have the gray glue!, I have contacted TYC to see what they say about their product!, I think they don't vent out the warm air build up from the bulbs fast enough!, I do appreciate your thoughts and ideas, thanks

Is TYC listed on the internet? I would like to look them up for future parts. And let me know what they say about your problem I wouldn't want to shop an aftermarket supplier if they don't back their products well. Thanks in advance.

Hey el es: You can find them at www.genera.com , that is their corporate name, in the mean time this morning I tried putting some longer vent hoses on the air outlets to let the warm air build up out, the factory hoses had a real wicked 90 degree bend in them and maybe could not let them breathe, I will see if that makes any change, they were cleared up by this morning , I have not heard back from TYC as of yet but I just sent another message, next one will be about posting a message on the forum about them if I don't get satisfaction!

Thanks for the info. I will be looking for some new headlights soon. I have well over 100k on my car and have a lot of pitting in my OEM headlights. I'd rather not buy from ebay but do not want to pay OEM prices either. I'd really like to know how this works out. Thanks again

Hey el es!! Well!!! TYC was more than willing to help! all I had to do was take the lamps out of the car?, ( this of course will create a problem driving at night and signaling!) and provide the original invoice which I do not have since I purchased them from a seller going out of business! and also ship them to New Jersey!, now! if THEY! deemed them to be defective they would replace them!, now I figure the moisture and fog would be all dried up by the time they receive them, I figure they might say? uhhh!! "We can't find anything wrong with these lenses" so why bother?, I am going to junk them in the spring and try buying some OEM units off e-bay, I figure I should eventually find a pair that won't fog up! so after spending $300 bucks on junk I am a little disapointed to say the least!, I will have to live with them wet and foggy for the winter, I did find a seller on e-bay who can take a factory set of lenses, take them apart and remove the yellow signal lens, reseal them so they vent properly, guarantee that they will not fog, and re ship them for $100 U.S, too bad I sold my OEM's!!, BUT I THOUGHT I HAD THE PROBLEM SOLVED BUYING NEW ONES!, I give up!!!

thanks for the update. Sounds like too much of a hassle to deal with. I guess I will keep my OEMs with the grey sealant and just bake and serve as needed. thanks again and sorry to hear you have had to go through so much BS of sucha simple part.

It really does make the car look like crap though when they are fogged up.

i too had one foggy headlight. i fixed it for free. after i removed the headlight from the car a found that i my case the two vents were clogged from some insects that made their home there. i unclogged them and cleared them up with a hair dryer. i havn't had the problem since...PB

Well!! I checked out the vent hoses also!, I even changed them!, made them a little longer with a gentle bend, No difference!, then I blocked them off!, I was able to see moisture build up in the clear tubing I used telling me the vents were expelling warm air as their supposed to!, I am now going to try making some gaskets for the bulb seats as 2 of the three bulbs do not seem to turn in tight in the bezels, this I hope will seal up the area where extra moisture is getting in, thank you!to Ken at LS concepts for this idea!, I will have to wait until some better weather is upon us, any other comments or ideas are welcome, thanks
