Help on stick driving/racing...

I just got my car, a 5 speed 95 4 door gsr. Im still learning how to drive but i was wondering if i could get some tips for racing? like a good rpm to launch at. And do you guys double clutch? my friend told me it was just for turbocharged cars but it seems to help when i double clutch to 3rd gear. Any other stick techniques? I heard something about mix shifting but im not at all sure of what it is....

Don't race till you learn how to handle a manual you will destroy you gearbox and/or cluch. try to get a feel of your car. at what rpm seems like it has the most power. look in the specs and see where your peak torque and peak hp they will be listed at a certain rpm. if you can't find out you can take the car an dyno it.

if you want to race do no let the rpm to drop below your peak torque when you upshift.

also in many cars the best thing is not to drop the cluch super fast because if you rev too high your tires will spin or if you're too low rpm drops too much.

get a feel for how fast you are going to drop the cluch.

in my car my peak torque is at 4000 rpm so i rev to about 5000 rpm and i let the cluch easily - not just take the foot of the pedal- when i am almost to the point when is released i press it again and upshift so i keep te rpm always high.

double cluching i think is not relly necessary unless you are driving a semi and you lose time doing it.

so jsut experiment with your car and get a feel for it. Each car is different so you drive them differrently

i would say to just work on your launch. something a lot of people do out of sheer boredom is try to sit still on a slight slope or hill - yea you can just hit/pull a brake, but try to give it gas up to 3-4000 rpm and sit still with the clutch out a little. little things like this give you better control with your clutch, and when youre at a stop light or whatever about to race, you do this exact thing minus the slope. i usually sit at about 3500rpm and slowly let the clutch out until i can feel it catching, just before you start rolling forward, and like Neutrino said, you can just take your foot off the clutch or you'll just sit there and peel. the only way to know how fast to let up is practice.
as far as shifting between gears goes your best bet is just to shift normally. yes, powershifting will give you better times but it really eats the shit out of your clutch in the process, so maybe only do that for mustangs...(personal grudge) just get good at shifting casually and then do the exact same thing except faster and faster.

frigin let the clutch out to fast at around 3500rpm..+/- ...spun 'em
damn little civic got me off the line...
if it would've been a 1/4 mile race, i would've had him,
but around here you gotta shutdown really quick!!!
so he got that one...i'll admit it
i swear we have the highest pig to civilian ratio!!!

anyway...i'm gonna go find a lonely highway later today, and practice launches...i'll be dammed if i ever get beat by a 2002 civic ex again

It'll never happen. You can't touch these 02 Civic EX's.......LOL

just kidding man. This just goes to show that its not just the car, it's the driver too. I would venture to say winning a race is more driver than car.

hey now...come on..I double clutch it all the time for better times

sure I have an automatic...and I mean I press gas after the brake....and times meaning how long it takes me to get to fat burger
