Well, So far I've had great advice here. Let's try again. I took my 96 Suburban from MA to PA over the holiday. Drove it about 1300 miles. The "service engine soon" light was on about half the trip. Before we left we replaced the battery, alternator, and did an oil change. The car runs great. no problems, except the light. it comes on randomly. checked gas cap...didn't matter. shut it off, let it cool down...didn't matter. sometimes it was on all day....some days not at all. I know it's some kind of emissions sensor, but am I doing any damage driving it like this? and how can I tell what the problem is? Otherwise I love the car. I got it in late August and this was our first road trip. It has 146000 miles. One other point....after drivind a while with the lights on the radio buttons are so hot you can't keep your finger on them......whats with that???
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I bet you gas milage sucks!!
Get the code read asap. I bet its a o2 code.
Doing damage with a light on -no just poor milage. When the light is flashing then its doing damage

First you will need to get the codes pulled..try Autozone, they will do it for free.
Second on the radio, try turning the dimmer down some..the bulbs that light up the radio do give off some heat and will cause the buttons to get hot.
