Last week replaced the alternator due to low output. Figured replace the serp belt at the same time. Had lots of squealing for about four days when cold and finally shredded the new belt. It was on correctly yes. Put old belt back on and no problems for the last 4 days and no squealing. Could it of been just a bad belt? I checked all pulley's and tensioner and all is fine.

you most likely have pulley issues. the new belt is tighter so it will stress the pulleys more. your old belt is worn and stretched. put the new belt on and spray each pulley with lube. when the noise goes away you found your bad pulley/s. i had the same problem with my 1998. i also had to replace the belt tensioner with the belt.

Don't spary lube on the bel portion of the pulley, just the inner bearing part.
