89 cherokee delayed spark

My 89 cherokee ltd takes about 4-5 seconds of crank to start. I have read through this forum and found most people point to the crank sensor so I replaced mine and found that the harness already had been changed and was nice and clean. This didn't help. My haynes manual jumps from 88 to 91 and later so it is useless for mine. I am wondering what to change next, the cam sensor in the distributor (if thats what it is) or the ignition module. I have no information to test either one. The fuel system is fine, pump has 39 psi and holds for over half hour. I can see with my spark tester that the spark is delayed. I know that these engines, 4.0, are nomarly a little slow but this is crazy. Thanks for any input.
P.S. After starting it runs and idles perfect. Plugs , wires and cap and rotor are all new.

I had similar problem as yours. My problem turned out to be a fuel hose within fuel pump was not tighten properly with hose clamps. So once the engine stopped, the fuel just drained out over time (not right away). Thus, the engine took a while to start after that. One way to check if you have same problem is to check on fuel pressure test port right next to fuel pressure regulator. Check it after 2-3 hours of operation to see if the pressure still remains and there is a lot of fuel coming out of the port. If not, then pull the fuel pump out and make sure the hose is connected properly.

As soon as I turn the key, the fuel pressure jumps up to pressure right away, however , when I have my wife turn the engine over , there is no spark for the first few seconds, and then it kicks in.

Hi just overhauled an 89 and put it in a 88 wrangler I found out that year model does not have a spark until the engine reaches a certian RPM. Due to the renix system used during 87 thru 89.`May be your problem.
