WIERD-Check Engine Light

The check engine light on my 2000 Camry (4 cyl.) keeps coming on. After resetting it, it stays out for about one month and then comes on again. It runs fine and must be something minor. It's not the gas cap as I 've checked it. I can reset it immediately after it comes on and it will stay out for 4 or 5 weeks and then come on again. Any ideas?

You have to have the codes read with a scanner to determine what is at fault on OBDII cars (any car built starting with model year 1996). If you have Autozone in your area, they will read the codes for you for free. Just go there and ask them.

If I were asked to take a wild guess, I would say you have an O2 sensor that is going; it is what the techs will call a lazy O2 sensor. But, you should not guess here. Go have the code read the next time the check engine light (also called the MIL- Malfunction Indicator Light by some techs) turns on.
