Painting and refitment costs

this is mainly for mr. bernoulli or any owners on here, i guess, but could you please give us an idea of how much it costs to paint a mclaren. not trying to be nosey...but most of the cars on the market are not in the best colors (silver is sooooo boring) so i would like to factor these in when talking about purchasing costs.

how about a retrim of the interior. probably in a simple cream color scheme.

and also, a set of four gtr-style wheels.

would appreciate an approximate figure pls.

According to F/shelldroff's comment of Mclaren F1(#007,068,LM03), the price of painting the car is 20 or 30,000 pounds.

If you're on a mission to really buy a McLaren F1, why not contact McLaren themself.
I'm sure they can give you some great guidance and come up with something far better than approx. price.
I'm sure they'll be very helpful when they see how serious you're about this.
You have to go there anyway when /if you buy it so why wait?
You're boss must be happy with your taste since he does not check this out himself, but I understand that a multi-Billionare (wow a B) like him has better things to do than adding a personal touch to a toy of this caliber.

Agreed. If you're going to buy a F1, you don't do it on a budget, and if you have to ask for costs, then a million dollar car really isn't for you (by this I mean the proverbial you, not the personal you.)

more than actual cost, its the hassle of shipping everythingback and forth, and the time delays involved. so costs are important but its the time and hassle cost that is more of a concern than the moeny. these seemingly intangible concerns translate into real opportunity cost.

you are partially correct about these things not being terribly important iin the overall scheme of things but there is a point at which it becomes obscene. just becauuse you can afford it does not mean you should indulge in pointless excess. i have only seen such displays with drug dealers an d arabs. most of the wealthy people in america are fairly understated and most dont venture beyond a mercedes. to most, even a current production ferrari is a very big deal. and the very wealthy face alot of scrutiny so they have to be eevn more mindful of such considerations. all that aisde my boss cares less about this htan most.

i was just trying to gather data points. its alwaysbetter than operativng in a vacuum. but thanks for the lecture.

Wyclef claims he paid 1.8 Million for his F1, which I would assume included shipping from Germany to the UK, the refit of the interior, the polishing of the wheels and any servicing the car may have needed. Then shipping to the USA and conversion to satisfy Show&Display. It's been mentioned that he also got ripped off badly by the middle men on the deal, so maybe that's an inflated figure.

As for the time involved, when jomo's dad was looking to buy an F1 they looked into having one refitted by the factory and there was a long delay at the time - something like 6 months that I recall - due to the move to the MTC and the focus on getting the SLR production line rolling. That may have changed by now, but there was also a rumor that the factory was going to cease offering that service.

I don't really see how the 'time is money' equation works into this situation, but maybe you see it differently.

F1 Monster, why are you so arrogant? You obviously "know your stuff" about mclarens and have a lot of info to share and experiences too but there is a way to share all these things with other people without being a complete tosser. Like Erik said in another thread, we welcome every new user here who has something to share and is friendly about it. But honestly, we just don't have time for rude and arrogant people anymore.

Think about it,

Chris

btw, as for your original question, just call McLaren up. You said yourself that the question is directed to only a few people here (as far as i know, no owners come here anymore. Drew may be able to persuade one to come back on but not for a question like this). Also understand that we like McLaren F1's as a car, we have a passion for it. No one here (currently) has looked into buying one (yet) and so your question is really a bit of a waste. I'm sure if you are serious about buying the car (and McLaren know who are and who aren't) just call David Clark or mclaren up and talk to them.

Hello,

the answer was done a long time ago by Franck Selldorff himself :) You can use the search button also :)

call David Clark or mclaren up and talk to them. and ask if you can buy a black LM :lol2: or at least have a pic !

Your boss would buy #011 or #073 ; no mods to do !

Ciao
Phil
