Question about Valve cover gasket

Hey first of all I wanna say hi to everyone. This site is definitely very informative.....I was reading a recent post and found out that I too need to replace my valve cover gasket (leaking oil in the spark plug area) Please excuse me I really am not really that knowledgeable about cars I know more than my husband that is enough lol

I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS I had all of my stuff out and ready to start the process of taking things off when I broke two screws off trying to take them out of my coil pack DA#N it I was PI$$ed.... I just need to find someone who knows about how much that it would run me to get this gasket replaced (you know new spark plugs, wires, and I know it's going to be costly to extract those darn screws) can anyone help me please!!! I want to know an estimate so I wont get taken by auto shops

do you have any idea how long the man hours are? Maybe an hour or two right? I just get so weirded out about labor cost because here in key west its a rip off. And I honestly don't trust many of the people that work in key west.

Well at my dealership, the gasket itself was $20 and $80 for the install. This is in Canadian dollars so in the US it must be cheaper. It takes less than an hour to change.

i don't remember what my gasket cost me but it took me all of 35 minutes to do the valve cover gasket replacement. so i'm guessing if you take it to the dealer your looking at payin about 80 bucks for an hour of labor and then the cost of the gasket. thats just for the replacement of the gasket. but you said you sheered off 2 bolts from the coil pack when you were trying to remove them. thats prolly gunna cost you dearly at the dealer. you may want to look into getting it done on base if thats possible. you shouldn't need to change the plugs or wires, just pull thm out wipe 'em off real well and stick 'em back in.

Make sure you don't have hairline cracks in the VC itself. Wipe out all of the oil very carefully, and take a close look inside the spark plug area.

I don't think the NT covers have the cracking issue the turbo covers have. At least I havent heard of it yet.

I don't even think that the people on base have a screw extractor

I just found out that the bolts are sheared off in the valve cover but i have a replacement so it's going to cost like 60 or so bucks. Found a decent auto place (by word of mouth) that have a rep for being honest and do great work.
