Check Engine Light; 92 318 IS

My 92 318IS began idling poorly in the last couple months. On initial start idle seems ok but after wram up and come to stop check engine light comes on and engine idle will not lower to normal. If I tap on gas and release the idle lowers but not to correct rpm. When I press on accelerator the check engine light goes out.

Any ideas?
