block racers?

ive been street racing since i got my first car about seven years ago.
after a few years going in a strait line got pretty boring. so I talked a few people into helping me organize block races. A few good and bad things happend. the bad thing was finding areas with few cops and less people but we found a few places and its been great the races are longer and require much more skill and the turn outs are much better. i even get people to help out as far as keeping an eye out for cops and peds now it took a bit of investment on our parts. mostly paying for walky talky's and an occasional tow truck(payed under the table) for anyone who can't make it around the block. the crash victim doesn't even pay out of his own pocket for the tow we just take up a collection. The really good thing thats happend is now there are very few ricers trying to compete, because there is a minimum betting fee in order to race and we inspect each car before its allowed to race so if the tires are bad and the breaks are worn you dont get to race also passangers are absoluty not allowed to be in the car during a race. now the turnouts are never over 50 spectators which i think is even better instead of having a massive amount of people in one place.

what i really want to know is does anyone else have block races or anything other than drag races where your at?
also what do you guys do to keep the cops off of you?

well they don't work here in mobile..... but good luck on that. we had a serious bust recently on like 30 people doing that... wasn't cool, hit the papers, but only 3 of them got tickets.

What do I do to keep the cops off me? Take it to a track.... and only speed on the street when its safe to. This meaning that even if I were to get pulled over, I'd likely get off with a warning.

This is the first time I've ever heard of block racing. Well, I guess it's good that you keep it safe. But as far as keeping cops off your back, I have no solution to that. Might be something that catches on. Who knows. I don't think I'd try it. But it sounds like it would be fun to watch. late...

I live in a very small village in california but on tuesday nights at around 2:30am the rwd guys meet up in the industrial part of town and attempt to drit. this has been going on for about 4 and a half month and we have been luky with th cops never showing up but its only a matter of time.

one ideah ive been tossing around in my head is there are only three roads leading into the area where we hold the races I was thinking of posting a look outs a few minutes up these roads and now to keep them from looking suspicious they will be in stock cars with one flat tire the jack and spare next to the car. they will miss the races that night but they will be payed to do this and i'll just have different people each week doing this.
what do you guys think?

Lol the flat tire thing is a bit much, don't think cops would be suspicious of somone if they're just taking a walk though ;). And no need for walkie talkies, if you get busted with those its just more of a case against you, just use your cell phones (hope you have them) and have everyone on speed dial. Keep things simple, complex plans tend to have more inherent flaws to work out. And only use people who will actually lookout, tell them they can talk on their cells all they want or bring a walkman, maybe work out a way for them to race eachother for free/no minimum wager at the end while some others go watch for them for a few minutes.

I just live south and west of you and all we do is give the policea a couple hundred peso's in advance and no problem. We race most every Sunday night.

we used our cells in the begining but the walky talky was much faster. the cops didn't try to use it against us before mainly because when there are that many people and modded cars in one area they pretty much have all the proof they need for the judge to believe them.
i wanna do the flat tire thing because I live in a high drug trafficing area and cops keep there eyes open for anything like abandoned cars or someone just waiting by the side of the road for no reason. plus I have never had a cop stop to help me change a flat(they dont like to get there uniforms dirty i guess)they have always just drivin by.
And a person just walking through without a car would still be hassled by the cops because hitching is illegal in my state.
As far as bribes go I know for a fact it works on mexican cops(kept me out of a juarez jail cell)but this aint mexico and the penalty for bribing a cop is way more serious than a few tickets.

Theres a few drifters who come to our races we usually let them make a few passes for free and its pretty cool to watch. but because its not an actuall race money isn't bet. Most of the cash thats layed down is for the races.
we get a few really good races just the other night we had two guys race for slips one in a 77 trans am and the other in a new yamaha r1.
everyone was sure that the trans am wasn't going to have a chance.
luckly for me I knew the guy that had built the engine in the trans am,
so i put down all my money.
the bike was faster in the corners but the trans am was much faster on the straights it was close the whole way but once the trans am took the lead the bike couldnt pass in the corners. at the end of the race the guy on the bike looked like he was going to cry when he handed the slip over. just goes to show you what $25,000 can do to a trans am.
turns out the guy had collected two more bikes like this.

Wow nice, I guess I had pictured it as a suburban kind of place where people take walks wherever. Sounds like you have it all figured out. Good luck!

Sounds like you're very organized; with that sort of organization you could likely take it to the local track and work out and all-day cop-free racing zone.

wow, NO WAY! I cant believe there are people still doing this! It used to be real popular back in the mid 80's and early 90s. I remember when I was like 12 my cousin used to take me to see stuff like that cause his friends all raced this way. When I was 14 my cousin crashed his 300ZX into a tree and stopped for a while. the crew he used to hang out with all ended up in jail (probably an undercover) then it sort of died down for a while and about 5 years ago I saw some guys trying to bring it back but it just didnt catch on cause it was too much time and too much hastle to get it set up. In Japan they drift race the same way, theyve always done it this way. pick a block, a few cars set off round the block and drift all the corners and run for a few laps. in South America, in Colombia and Venezuela they do point to point race. start here, end there first one across town wins. ignore all police and traffic cause the cops are too slow and the law can always be bought off. but yeah man good luck with that, its nothing new but its way more challenging then straight lines and way more respect to the winner. If this stuff works out for you it might just get on tv or something and you could be the next Jessie James!

Kanibal
12-01-2004, 01:21 AM
yeah I got the whole idea from the vids of drifters in japan doing the same thing. we tried to have sprints across town but on the first race we had four of our cars impounded including mine, plus it just wasn't safe enough.
As far as getting on T.V. I already know it would be a bad thing. a lot of money is made from these races, so gambling is a huge part of these competitions. Most of my income is made off of holding these races, for now anyways.

Sounds cool.

still, the mountain is where its at.

Kanibal
12-01-2004, 01:42 AM
we only have one paved mountain where I live, and there are way to many cars on it for a safe race to happen It's one of the main roads into the city. but who knows maybe one day they'll pave one of the other mountain roads around here.
believe me if I had a choice between a mountain and a block, Id be on that mountain right now practicing runs.

The only thing i dont get is why you have to make bets to race? What if youre just someone who wants to get into it for fun?

Kanibal
12-01-2004, 07:15 PM
If there were no bets being layed down, everybody would be able to race which means some guy in a sohc civic with very basic mods would talk shit to some guy in a fully modded car. they would race the civic would lose just as everyone expected, and everyones time would be wasted.
Ive had a few ricers complain about this and I just explain to them that Im not the only guy in this city who can hold these races. if they want to hold there own competitions they are more than welcome to.
I had one guy take my advice and he tried to do this it lasted a few weekends but I guess he didn't realize the type of organization it takes.
He was getting busted every weekend because he only had one spot, and they were all meeting at the sonic on one side of town and leaving in one big group to there spot on the other side of town. so all the cops had to do was follow in an unmarked car and call in there location.
I have been considering either holding a beef night every two or three weeks apart where people can settle all the shit talking that takes place in this sport
with no money involved. or just setting aside a few races a night for this.
either way I think it will keep the fist fights at a minimum. I was gonna get a security team together but the only guys I could find were big guys just looking to break sombodys face open, and that would just call more unwanted attention to these races.

Im pretty sure it's illegal to have scanners in the car here. it had somthing to do with the whole drug thing. a bust or somthing I dont remember.

and now Im gonna be up all night cuz neutrino doesn't believe me. your welcome to come to the races oh wait I didn't send you an invitation. only the cool kids are invited.

You are hilarious mister "I do powerslides in my probe" and "we set up road races around the city blocks". Can you be more full of it, it’s quite clear in the way you post that you are making stuff up.

So if you really want to prove you are not full of it post some pictures or even better some videos. I'm sure some big players like yourself and your gang can afford a measly video camera.

PS. "Only the cool kids are invited"? Are you still in elementary Ed to speak like that?

:nutkick: Burn, i didn't really buy into it either, and the last post did it for me...in my town if someone wants to race it just to the hiway out of town that no one drives on and it's on...long straightaways...

oh god I should have known this would come up. but here goes anyway. I cant post pics, I havent been able too for weeks. every time I try to upload pics I get some message saying there not in Jpeg format even if they are. Im still trying to fix this problem.
as far as fighting and security. I dont know how it is for you guys but fights do happen, its not every weekend. but we do get a few fights on occasion.
and security would have just been there to keep people from ganging up on one guy. most of the time it doesn't go past words and pushing. security was just an Idea. and we didn't go through with it.
Who said I was a big player do you have any idea how hard it is to make money off of street racing alone.
the money I make off this works out to less than a minimum wage job, I do lose races and money. I sell art when I can, and take up part time jobs in construction laying fiber optic and digging trenches.
as far as the "cool kids" remark obviously sarcasm doesn't transfer to well in a post.
but hell what the fu*k do I care if you guys dont believe me.
you guys saw the fast and the furious and just assumed that any kind of organization in street racing is impossible. the fact is most street racing became unorganized after that damn movie.

thanks for the support.
but I understand where these guys are coming from, the fact is I can't provide any proof at the moment. unfortunatly there are a lot of kids that come in here and lie about what they drive and how they race. In reality most of these kids dont even have there licences yet.
now I could have kept arguing with these guys but this post would have gone back and forth for a very long time, mods would have gotten involved and chances are because im still pretty new to the forum I could have possibly lost my membership. which is somthing I dont want to risk over such a small matter. so I have to bite my tounge untill I can upload pics. but like I said Im not gonna run down to my cousins and pay just to upload pics, I'd rather wait untill something more serious happens and have him fix that and whatevers wrong with it now.
Im not too worried about it though, this will all be resolved when I post the pics.
personally I wouldn't mind it if more people would post pics of thier rides instead of just getting a pic off of a site.
