I just purchased a 2002 XLT. Dealer could not provide the remote access control number. I know I can get the master number off of the access controller, but I cannot find the controller. I know it is hid in the rear somewhere, but where?

I saw a previous post and they talked about it being located near the the jack and accessories in a cavity on the left side of the rear cargo area. My jack junk is located in the front center of the rearward floor cavity.

I know I am kind of late with this, but someone else might be able to use it. You should not have to reprogram it if the battery dies, but here are the directions anyways, hope this helps someone as this thread helped me find that damn module:

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.
1. Insert the keys in the ignition and turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN, eight times within ten seconds, ending in RUN. If the vehicle has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors automatically.

2. Within 15 seconds, press ANY button on a keyless entry remote transmitter. The doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each keyless entry remote transmitter has been activated. NOTE: When the first keyless entry remote transmitter is programmed, all existing keyless entry remote transmitters are erased.

3. Repeat the previous step for each transmitter that will operate the vehicle.

4. If the door locks do not respond for any keyless entry remote transmitter, wait 10 seconds and press the button again.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position or wait up to 30 seconds after step 1, to exit program mode. If a keyless entry remote transmitter has been activated, the vehicle will lock and unlock all doors one last time to confirm.
