I must say, it's better than The Fellowship of the Rings I thought the first volume was BORING! It was slow, the dialogue was gay, and their choice of action made no sense to me. I was seriously doubting the series. The movie was not that great either, since I didn't enjoy the book.
Anyways, so I finished The Two Towers and I couldn't put it down. I was hooked. More action, better dialogue. I'm already starting on the 3rd volume.
Other books I'd like to read: 1984
Brave New World

oh, dude...do yourself a favor and rent/buy/find/borrow a copy of the illustrated encyclopedia- It will help make sense of all the strange, obscure, historical, and socialogical references. for instance- how orcs/goblins and Trolls came to be? or what Gollum was BEFORE he was Gollum? I read all three books, and was incredibly lost- then a friend let me borrow his encyclopedia, and I learned so much I went back and read all three of them again.

Yeah, I like how Tolkien created such a detailed fantasy world. He even invented a whole language and several clever writing systems. He and I are alot alike. You should see my stash. I have four cultures, each with a spoken language, writing system, history (each spanning SEVERAL millennia), religion, fashion, and biology.
Thanks for the tip, I'm am really into that kinda stuff (detailed fantasy world).
