Revells 1950 Ford truck turned into a COE!!!!(cab over engine) Yes I have three projects going, who doesn't? Started this morning and have made great progress in just 4 short hours. This is actually two different kits, thats why there are two body colors. Heres a few pics so far:
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/15830750_FB.JPG
Heres the body joined to the fenders, and the stock length chassis:

Now here is the shotened chassis with the wheels I will be using, and this is just a mock-up. Paint will be Aqua color:

Hey,
I always wanted to do an old coe truck. I really hope this turns out great. And I'm sure it will. Good luck. Keep up the awsome work.

That's pretty cool. I'm not too keen on the short wheelbase with the stock bed. Looks more like it should be a flatbed car hauler for your '40.

Cool! I agree with cwmax, though, that short wheel base looks weird (and scary - I wouldn't drive it!) Is it prototypical or custom? Either way, looks awesome. I can't wait to see it come out.

I have no idea if it is prototypical, so I guess it would be custom? Thanks for the feedback and yes I am using the wheels in the pic!!!!!!

Cool, Odd and a bit scarry!
Maybe a stake-side extension on the bed would help the proportions.

The sense of "prototypical" I'm using I've lifted from model railroaders. I am trying to get it to catch on in the model car community, too, as I find it very useful. It means following the prototype of the real thing, instead of being a one of a kind or one-off (which would be a custom, I guess). A prototypical locomotive would be one that was true to the one it was replicating in scale. In fact, one manufacturer introduced its premium line under the name "Proto 2000" to capitalize on the word.

I think it is, but I can't say for sure as I got it from someone else.
It was scanned form and old car modeler mag and says that its at 50% so given the size of the one I have I beleive it has already been enlarged.

I like the idea, but the bed looks way too long. Would you consider stretching the wheelbase abit? Are you going to have dual wheels in the rear, now that the ramp bed is on there? Awsome project so far!! Keep up the great work.

Here is a small update. I got the hood where I want it, now its time for some putty to whip it in shape! Maybe the bed is too long but once its all built, with a car on it, it should be fine! Thanks for your concern!!!!

That looks cool-but the wheelbase does look a bit short. I'd be tempted to stretch the wheelbase so that the rear wheel centerline is a bit further back...right now it looks centered ahead of the visual center of the ramp, so it makes the ramp area look long and back-heavy. If you were to move the wheel openings back about 1/2 of the wheel opening distance, it would balance the shape and it wouldn't look so long in the back. Or you could simply add another set of rims directly behind the existing ones, and make it a dual axle design that splits the four wheels from just one axle and side by side to two axles and front/back, which might look pretty cool on this truck.
ol' dude
12-04-2004, 08:22 AM
That sounds like a great idea, only if you can donate the 1958 Thunderbird 2-n-1 kit by Monogram! Thats the kit I took the wheels from!!

But I must say I like the idea of the dual axle. :icon16:
