rear turbo ticking

okay, today i was workin on my car and had the rear turbo intercooler piping removed and i accedently ran the car for like 6 seconds without the piping on so the turbo was just open, now, i don't think anything fell in but it made a REALLY loud ticking noise so i shut the car off, shoved the pipe back on and tryied agiain, it still ticked so i dunno, if somthing did fall in, say like a bolt, it wouldn't tick right? it would just make really loud screeching noises and seize the turbo right? so i don't think anything fell in but just in case, is it hard to remove the rear turbo? does the engine need to be pulled or can i pull it off without yanking the engine out? also, my egr is removed and i have block off plates but i have the one that conects to the turbo removed at the moment so could that be it? just exuast coming out of the little EGR flange? thanks guys
