My wifes SS has a constant ticking coming from the passenger side.
Doesn't matter if it's cold or after 100 miles. It's in the engine because it increases with acceleration no matter wether it's in drive or park.
It runs fine with the tick, just want to know what it is.

Check oil level. Check both head's for broken metal.
Not a good noise.

My Monte engine has ticked since it was new. They said it was normal engine noise. It is most noticable when cold. I've put 75k miles on it and there is no change.

Same here. I'll just live with it.

my 95 had that problem. I found that right by the power steering fluid and belt are two metal lines that when you accelerate clicked together and it did it when it was hot or cold. I stuck a piece of rubber hose between them and then tie wrapped it and the noise disappeared.

Hey. I have a 1995 Monte Carlo LS. At 120km they found a crack in the block, replaced the engine (out of the crate, under warranty). Ever since I've had problems, most recently at 213Km (13K over new engine warranty) a "ticking" in the engine as well. After an engine flush and additives the shop came back and told me the #3 piston was shot. I'm thinking after 93Km it's crapped out? Anyway, wondering what would case this? How would it overheat enough to warp? It's always had regular maintenance done. The only thing I can think of is about two months ago I had the #3 spark plug and all spark plug wires replaced. They even wrote on the work order that when replacing that plug it had broken off, causing the misfire. Any thoughts? I've been told I can drive it without spending $2500 to fix the engine as long as I warm it up. So in the short time I've been driving it since, once it's warmed up I can barely hear the "ticking". Sorry to be so long, I'd love to hear some other opinions on this.
Cheers.

Fan: I really doubt that your piston is damaged from one simple misfire. I've misfired so many times on my engine, and I have no problems. Anyways, a ticking can come from alot of different places. Saying that you hear one, doesnt really help for any of us trying to solve your problem. So I suggest grabbing a 2 foot long piece of wood about an inch square. Go around your engine and try to find WHERE the noice is coming from the loudest; using that piece of wood to listen through.
Come reply back when you know a more aproximate area :)

I was trying to get another opinion on what could have caused the warping of the piston. I was pretty sure that the misfire wouldn't have caused it, hence seeking other thoughts. So any other thoughts besides getting a sh!tty 3.1 out of the crate put in and only lasting 93K?
