some one was saying you can tell if its a black top by looking at the lines on the front of the motor...so is this a black or red top?

there are 2 different types of black tops. which one are you referring too? becusae the S13 black top's only difference from the red top is purely cosmetic and have less potential miles because its a newer engine.
now for the S14 black tops, there are a ton of difference. the intake manifold plenium is on top, there is a hump on the front of the head for the variable cam timing motor, and the top of the valve cover is not smooth. there is a hump from cylinders 1-2-3, then it slops down on cylinder 4. your S13 SR's red and black top the valve cover would be flush from cylinders 1 thru 4.

ok so its def a s13 then...im guessing that it must be a black top s13 then. i was told black top..when i thought black top i thought s14..thanks for clarifing

how can you tell its a red top...and if you say it has a red top i'll smack you...becuase the car was supposbly a black top motor with redtop (to match car color)

well like i said, there are quit a bit of difference in the way a S13 SR looks compared to a S14 and S15 SR.
