I have a 1987 S10 Blazer that I aquired in 1994. At the time I purchased it the A/C unit was non functional as the compressor wasn't attached to the serp. belt and I was told that the compressor needed to be replaced. Here it is 10 years later and I never did get around to replacing it, so I'm looking at just removing the whole A/C system from the vehicle since it's nothing but unnecessary weight right now.
Does anyone know if there is anything I need to be aware of if I'm just going to take the whole system out. I know that I need to make sure the system is discharged by someone who knows what their doing, but other than that can I just start taking things off without any problems?
Thanks.

By removing the A/C system how much of a difference will it really make to the vehicle, not much!.
Anyways if it's something you want to tackle, you must first see if there is still freon in the system, if you remove the black cap at the charging port and use a small screw driver, you can depress the valve( be careful), if you get a puff, you are going to have to have the freon recovered, thus making the system safe to work on.
If it was my truck!, I'd leave it!

If I were you I'd advertise it in a free paper, and if someone wants to buy it for the cost of the conversion then have it removed and sell it.
Otherwise leave it on.
