i was thinking of buying an e21 to work on. i was wondering if these cars are much fun to drive? are many parts interchangeable between bimmers? and is there anything i should know before considering purchasing one? and if anyone who has ever owned one tell me some of there thoughts about these cars?.....thanks

I have had an e21 since new in 1977.
It has over 500k since 4 speedometers have been used.
One overhaul and 4 valve jobs.
It is modified with many late model e21 parts.
Up to 1980 the engine is a 2 liter with almost all parts from the 2002 model usable. The later models are 1.8 and all electronic controls.
Mine uses points and a condenser, in a centrifugal distributor.
Later models had 5 speed transmissions and the S model had 3.91 differentials. I have my 5 speed and differential in the garage waiting for the time to install.
Mine has e30 14 inch wheels and 10mm spacers.
The car is lowered 1.5 inches.
The modified engine produces 130hp NA.
It has a Calloway Turbo and the output is 180hp at 6psi 230hp at 9psi.
A four cylinder 320i turbo conversion is $3,650-$3,950, or $2,800-$3,000 if you're handy with a wrench and do it yourself.

I added a G-Tech Comp for the shift lights last year.
