My dad recently got a 91 caprice 350 with low miles i was wondering if this engine would bolt rite in my 79 firebird with an auto tranny.Any information is greatly appreciated. also how much would it cost ,where can i get a cheap piston ring and gasket set? I cant find a nice cheap one anywhere!

If that '79 firebird had a pontiac or olds engine in it before this swap, the engine bolt pattern of that 350 chevy motor wont match up with the pontiac/olds bolt pattern on the tranny. If it had a chevy motor in it before though, it should bolt right in. The '91 motor would also have to have been carburated or youll have to switch it to carburated, unless you want to convert the car to fuel injection, but thats a whole other story.

What do you want a cheap ring and gasket set for- If its the chevy 350 - you can't get em cheaper !!
The 350 will bolt in easy- motor mount from a camaro or v8 bird ,
Need a chevy trans though.
The newer chevy 350 is all computer controlled you would need to swap the whole setup and wire it up also - not good for a newbie . You might be better off sticking with an older engine and have it rebuilt . Cheaper to modify an old carb setup engine anyway...
