Hi, ive owned a porsche 944 for about a year now. I had someone put a stereo head unit into the car and well some how he caused an electrical fire. That made me very unhappy, and i didnt find out about it till a few weeks later when my car started to smoke on the interior. After taking my dashboard off and looking at what had happened, i notice that most of the wires associated with the radio relay had grounded out somehow. I replaced all of the wires, and went to start my car and nothing happened. Its not turning over at all. I ran a hot wire from the battery to the starter, and its not the started. Im just wondering if anything shorted out when that radio relay grounded out. Most of the electronics work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Are you getting ignition lights on when you turn the key?

The factory alarm disables the DME. Aftermarket alarms can do anything. That'd be the first thing to check out. Your next step would the wiring itself. Lastly, the ignition switch itself.
Here's some diagrams, I'd recommend you print them out and staple them together.

The radio fuse should have blown before shorting and smoking. I'd pay the person who installed your stereo a visit and whip him/her with the shorted wires and beat some common sense into them!
Can't help more, need year.
