VATS System Help!

Is there any way to disable the Vats system in a 91 camaro z28 so the car will run normal without getting a chip or a module? My code came up #46 and it's a complete no start situation. If I have to get a chip, will the car start? I'm not sure what I should do. Please help!

If its your lock cylinder (which it probably is)
measure the resistance of the pellet in your key and get a resistor of that same value (radio shack, electronics store, etc) Under your steering column, there will be two small wires with an orange jacket, these are the wires that go to your key lock cylinder.. cut the wires and jump them together with the resistor.. solder it in, dont just tape it..

that usually works..

You can also send your prom in to get the vats removed from it.. I know www.PCMforless.com will do it..

I have not tried that yet but I think it's something other than the vats. I get know spark or at least one time but real quick, and I think the injectors are not firing. I do have a chip with the vats removed but still won't start. I'm puzzled. I do have msd so I will have to check that as well. Any other helpful hints, I'll try them all at this point. :screwy:

Your ignition coil perhaps?

You mentioned before you were getting a code 46.. You still could have a problem in your VATS system.. check your resistor connections, maybe they've come loose

I have spark for about 2-4 seconds then shuts down. Wait 2-4 minutes the it does the same thing.
Any suggestions?

If the coil checks out, remove the distributor cap, rotor & ignition module and look down at the reluctor wheel, poke it with your finger/small screwdriver, if it moves around you'll need to rebuild the distributor also the secondary coil is down there and may be fried too.

Wow. I should just get a new distributor. I don't how easy it would be to rebuild this part. The outer shell does move. Is this normal?

To All who have helped me come up with ideas, THANK YOU!! I have found the problem. A Broken Distributor Cam Gear. I thought I would check to see if the rotor was spinning and it was not. So thanks again. YOU ALL ROCK!!!

A Broken Distributor Cam Gear. I thought I would check to see if the rotor was spinning and it was not.

I'm glad that is all it was. Usually when the rotor doesn't turn it means a broken timing chain.
Did the gear stay on the distributor? Didn't drop down in the oil pan?

No it stayed on the distributor. Thank heaven! Just one side of the gear lost it's teeth. so no connection with the cam! That never happened to me before. Must have been a lemon gear. Well anyway, oil changed and hopfully no more problems.

Thanks everyone!!
